Buskers at the Rutherglen Heat will share in over $10,000 in prize money as well as the opportunity to represent the town at the Grand Final in Cooma, next November.
There will also be a People's Choice Award where the public has the opportunity to vote for their favourite busker via Busker Tokens.
Damien Adams, Chair of Destination Rutherglen said Rutherglen’s heritage Main Street is the perfect environment for the event.
“Busking stations will blend into the historic street with local business supporting the entertainment which runs throughout Saturday,” Mr Adams said.
“The Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic and the vibe of New Orleans will take over.
“Saturday evening will see local Yackandandah legend, Pete Denahy performing live and free at the Star Hotel where he will also MC the evening Busker's Open Mic celebrations. It will be a big weekend – live entertainment is back!” he said.
The Rutherglen busking weekend will commence on Friday evening, May 13 with a concert by 10-piece band The Northern Folk at the Rutherglen Memorial Hall. Tickets will be available through TryBooking.
The busking heats will then commence on the Saturday May 14 from 10 am and continue throughout the day to finish around 4pm.
Performances will take place at various busking stations along the Main Street with roaming judges scoring the performers. This will then be followed by a Finals Concert of the highest scoring buskers to see who takes home some of the $10,000 in prize money.
Sunday, will see the newly opened Rutherglen Convent hosting an Open Day for locals and visitors alike to see the amazing transformation of the 1927 building.
