Store manager and empress of the expansive chicken empire, Sue Bevilacqua, started her campaign on Hogan St, Tatura back in May 2020.
And despite the business starting at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, she was able to spearhead the success and expansion of the chicken shop.
“It was hard, but the best thing about it all was that we did not have to close, and we did not have to terminate anyone,” Sue said.
"The secret of our success is our amazing chickens and the way they’re cooked, our amazing chips and secret seasoning that we have.“
While residents across Greater Shepparton were locked-down and the supermarket shelves were bare at the height of the pandemic, Tatura Charcoal Chicken was providing great value to families doing it tough.
Sue’s daughter was stuck in Melbourne inside Victoria’s ring of steel, and when Tatura was hit hard, she donated $500 to help out her home town that they used to hand out 30 food packages to families in need.
“Because she’s a country girl through and through,” her proud mother said.
Sue’s motto is “not just a chicken shop”, and Tatura Charcoal Chicken is also looking to expand and diversify its culinary offerings into things like Asian cuisine and pasta.
The business is already offering catering for events, and has started doing banquet nights where people can go the buffet and feed two for $20. It could be roast, it could be pasta, but it will always be different and interesting.
