Once again, the very successful MRA regatta on Lake Moodemere was held last weekend over a couple of very hot days.

The two-day regatta was well represented by the members of the Wahgunyah Rowing Club in various roles, both competitively and working tirelessly to help make the regatta run smoothly.
The club was responsible for the running of the bar on both days, announcing and presenting award recipients of the races on Saturday and coordinating the collection and return of bow numbers for each competitor’s boat on the Sunday. The bar was operating responsibly from 12 noon each day and along with the other jobs to be done, the members were kept very busy on both days.
It was also Wahgunyah’s turn to organise and run the raffle for the weekend. The club is very appreciative of the generous donations of wine from Pfeiffer Wines and Lake Moodemere Estate, which made up the bulk of the hamper for 1st prize, along with local produce. The combination of the beautiful local wines and produce proved to be a very attractive prize, which was well supported by local and visiting rowers and supporters alike.

The raffle was drawn at lunchtime on Sunday. The winner of the 1st prize hamper was Bruce Waxman, a competitive rower from Melbourne and the 2nd prize winner of three bottles of wine was Ron Alexander, a volunteer umpire, also from Melbourne. Congratulations to both winners and a huge thank you to Pfeiffer Wines and Lake Moodemere Estate for their support, and to everyone at the regatta for purchasing tickets.
Seasoned rowers, Neville Hetherington and Gary Milthorpe were joined by Craig Bromley and Heinz Deiter, both relatively new to the sport, to compete in the Male Masters coxless quadruple scull race.
The crew was trained by the club’s head coach, Dermot Balaam who has recently moved to Wahgunyah from Canberra.
The crew raced on both days with these races being Craig and Heinz’s first competitive race. All four rowers and their coach were pleased with their performance on the water and developed great team work to finish their two races in good form.
