The P5 Relay Team, including Macy Douch, Maddison Ryan, Harrison Webb and Cooper Patten, qualified for state after swimming an impressive 2:53:38, 4x50 relay, at the Riverina PSSA Carnival in Leeton earlier this month.
It’s also the first time in five or six years that Corowa South Public School students have made it to state level.
“We are really excited and nervous,” Macy told the Free Press.
“I’m nervous too but once you dive into the water it goes away,” Cooper said.
“We are going to try and not be nervous,” Harrison added.
“At the last race our parents were more excited than we were,” Maddison laughed.
The young swimmers have also been training hard together and encouraging each other. On the day Maddison will start the relay, followed by Macy and Harry, and Cooper will finish the race.
“We are going to try and beat our time but also have fun,” Harrison said.
The students will also have the opportunity to do some sight-seeing while in Sydney, including a visit to Luna Park.
As the students prepare for their upcoming race, they have also been working hard with the school to raise money for their trip with fundraisers, a mufti day and a disco.
