The annual event continues to showcase the eloquence and poise of young speakers in the community.
This year's competition was marked by a remarkable display of talent, with students delivering speeches of a consistently high standard.
The enthusiasm and skill of the participants reflected the increasing quality of the event, making for an informative and engaging afternoon.
As always, the competition was fierce, but only one winner and one runner-up could be selected in each category.
In the Year 3/4 division, Skylar Schmidt emerged victorious, with Olivia Gerard securing a close second place. Both contestants impressed the judges with their articulate and confident presentations, with only a few points separating them.
The Year 5/6 division saw Lucia McClellan take first place, while Rosie Hicks was named runner-up. The performances of these older students were equally commendable, showcasing their advanced public speaking skills and making the judging process challenging due to their exceptional abilities.
Judge Craig Waldron of Waldron’s IGA, who had the honour of presenting the awards, praised the participants.
"It was impressive to see the calibre of the contestants this year,“ Mr Waldron said.
“With every year the public speaking competition is held, the standard of speakers just gets better and better. Congratulations to all who competed this year."
The Corowa Lions Club extends their heartfelt congratulations to all the contestants for their outstanding efforts. The club also expresses its gratitude to the schools for their support in making this event possible.
The dedication and hard work of the students were evident in their performances, and each participant has a bright future ahead, whether in public speaking or any other endeavours they choose to pursue.
As the competition concluded, there was a shared sense of anticipation for next year's event, particularly to see how the younger contestants will continue to develop their skills.
The Corowa Lions Club looks forward to fostering this tradition of excellence in public speaking, encouraging more students to step up and share their voices.
The 2024 Junior Public Speaking competition was a resounding success, highlighting the exceptional talent within the community and setting a high bar for future events.
Congratulations once again to Skylar Schmidt, Olivia Gerard, Lucia McClellan, and Rosie Hicks for their achievements, and best wishes to all participants for their future endeavours.
