The NSW district the Southern Inland Swimming Association held its Championships and Speedo Sprint heats over two days in Griffith. Five swimmers competed with two of them earning starts in Sydney in a few weeks’ time. Congratulations to Alex and Nick for making the cut to go to Sydney!
The Sprints/Championships meet was such an exciting event with this power-house team - times crashing, new PB’s, medals, podiums and of course qualifying for SOPAC! Massive congratulations to all five swimmers who all competed hard and fast, all making improvements and importantly all being outstanding representatives of the club with their work ethic, teamwork and support of not only each other but for other swimmers too. Great to see team. And always, a big thank you to the parents, for your commitment, enthusiasm, and support, it was a top weekend! Much thanks and credit also to Dawn who was our accompanying coach for the meet.
Here are some of the results:
Alex Graham – bronze medal and a trip to Sydney
Sophia Graham – 3 PB’s from 6 events (not too far from the placings either)
Katelin Baker – a huge 3.30 secs off her medley time
Rylee Tukuniu – 5 PB’s from 8 events including an impressive 4.80 seconds off in the 50 breaststroke
Nicholas Tukuniu – 2 silver medals and a trip to Sydney, 5 PB’s from 8 events
Also, the same weekend the ‘All Juniors’ heats hosted by the Victorian District the Ovens and Murray District Swimming Association were held at Yarrawonga. The club had two swimmers represent: Max and Nate Delamere. Some nice PB’s from the boys, congratulations, and a special mention for attending unaccompanied by a coach! Superstars!
Max - 50m back, a .14 sec improvement
Nate - 50m back, a .90 sec improvement; 50m free, a 2.28 sec improvement
Congratulations to you both!
Unfortunately Swimming Victoria will no longer allow NSW border clubs to attend semi-finals and finals for the All Junior heats in Melbourne. Nevertheless, the all junior heats is a qualifying meet which means swimmers may use the times achieved at the meet to enter other events of their choice.
It’s only three weeks now until Corowa’s own Club Championships. If you have not yet entered a Pennant meet you have one more opportunity to do so on February 27. There are only two more club nights to qualify, so get along to the pool and prepare to race!
Don’t forget the O&M Relay Championship meet is on March 5– the club needs as many entrants as possible, but you must have swum at one pennant to qualify.
Sadly the club will be without the Sydney finalists at the Relay Championships this season as the Relay Meet (being a Victorian district meet) clashes with the Speedo finals in Sydney.
