Rutherglen 0:4:4 - Chiltern 14:14:98
Rutherglen hosted Chiltern at Barkly Park. With both teams coming off wins, a hard-fought contest was expected.
The first quarter saw Chiltern take an early lead, winning the ball at the contest to go into quarter time 3 goals up.
The second quarter was much the same, with Chiltern’s backline keeping Rutherglen goalless to go into halftime 40 points up.
Chiltern’s halfback line continued to dominate, keeping Rutherglen goalless in the second half, while setting up multiple attacking forays. Despite the best efforts of Michael Cooper, Ryan Millthorpe and Jimmy Hanrahan, Chiltern were never troubled, cruising to a 98-4 win.
Awards: Complete Body Craft – Michael Cooper, Bridge Rd Brewery – Jimmy Hanrahan, Rutherglen Pizza – Ryan Millthorpe.
Reserves
Rutherglen 1:3:9 - Chiltern 12:11:83
After a sluggish first half the boys fought well in the Second half after some structural changes that they adapted too very well.
Once again, the Cat’s good footy showed they can compete against the better sides if they put their minds to it.
It was a tough slog in heavy conditions but full credit to the guys they never gave up at any stage.
Best players on the day were Peter Bell, Brent Flannery and the rest was an even spread with everyone contributing at some stage through the game.
With two games to go against some tough opposition, the boys are just aiming to stay in the games for longer and hopefully sneak another win before the season ends.
Awards: Winslow Civil Construction – Daniel Bell, Cofield Wines – Brent Flannery, Rutherglen Pizza – Brad Wilson.
Under 17s
Rutherglen 4:1:25 - Chiltern 9:12:66
This week, the Under 17 Cats came up against the second placed Chiltern on a cold, wet winters day. The game started out evenly with Chiltern leading by 2 points at quarter time unfortunately Chiltern showed their strength for the rest of the game and outclassed us.
Luke Nicholson played his best game after coming back from a serious injury and Riley Hayes was outstanding in a number of positions.
The boys look forward to playing their last home game for the year against Barnawartha this weekend.
Awards: Rutherglen News Agency – Riley Hayes, Rutherglen Pizza – Luke Nicholson, Silver Key Café – Rory Beattie.
Under 14s
Rutherglen 7:8:50 - Chiltern 4:0:24
On a cold wet morning, the young boys battled with archrivals Chiltern.
With nothing separating the two sides for the best part of three quarters the young Cats were able to kick clear in the last to book their place in the finals with a twenty-six-point victory.
Young Harry Chandler continued his good late season form to hit the scoreboard on a couple of occasions along with Bryce “Boof” Moloney and Jack Torney. Daniel Rylands moves from defence to mid has added grunt to the middle and allowed the outside run of Ollie Nelson to flourish, while the ever smooth Flynn Verhulst continues to counter attack from defence. An outstanding game from the entire group.
Awards: Parkers Pies – Bryce Moloney, Silver Key Café – Daniel Ryland, Caffeine Machine – Ollie Nelson, Flashes Five – Flynn Verhulst

The weather was against us producing some slippery conditions and a heavy ball. Seniors have made vast improvements compared to last round and was good to see smiles on faces despite the rain and cold wind. Keep at it girls.

Unfortunately, the Under 17s didn’t bring the game they played last time we faced Chiltern. The girls played a good defensive game but struggled to convert to goals. The weather conditions didn’t help.

Under 15s played an impressive game to keep Chiltern in check. Jo, Lucy and Charlotte were strong in defence with Georgie, Grace and Alex pushing hard in the goal circle. Centre court was well covered with Charlotte, Georgie and Sarah producing strong passages of play down the centre. Thanks to Kaity our last minute addition proving very handy in attack. Great team effort by all and so good to see the comradery among this group of girls.

Solid win for the girls today in cold and wet conditions.
Great positioning and solid drives in the mid court produced nice passages of play feeding into goals.
Grace was strong in the circle this morning shooting her 100th goal for the season early in the first quarter. Congratulations Grace, you are a superstar.
The ever-reliable O’Donoghue sisters again made invaluable contributions however our award winners Millie and Harriett stole the show proving how far they have come this year. Well done girls.
