Rutherglen 18:14:122 def Saints 3:3:21
Round 13 saw Rutherglen venture to Wodonga to take on the Saints. With the sun shining and on a fantastic surface, the game was hot early, with Wodonga being cleaner with their possession and registering the first goal of the game.
Rutherglen then settled and began to take control of the game through the midfield, setting up repeat entries into the forward line to give Rutherglen a 9-point lead at quarter time.
The second quarter saw Rutherglen take control of the game, kicking 9 goals to 1.
The second half saw much of the same, with the Cat’s backline keeping the Saints scoreless after half time and Rutherglen’s midfield and forward doing as they please to run out 101-point winners.
Award Winners: Complete Body Craft – Daniel Bell, Corowa Sports Power – Ryan Jones, Bridge Road Brewery – Ryan Maxwell

How good is it to finally get another win on the board after numerous near misses?
After a slow start where we were very reactive to what the Saints were doing, Rutherglen clicked in to gear in the second quarter with some fantastic team play.
The boys started to trust the process and it showed playing some of their best footy of the year in the second and third quarters of the game.
The boys were asked at three quarter time to not fall back into old ways and continue doing the teamwork which they did in the previous two quarters and again in the final quarter.
They responded to this, and every time Saints looked like challenging we responded which was really good to see.
Awards for the day were really hard to choose which is a good thing to happen.
In the end, Joe Brooks received the Winslow’s Award for BOG for an outstanding game on the wing.
Other key contributors were Thorpey, Killa, Ethan and Webby from the younger brigade and the Old Fellas in Moo, Flanners and Tim Keys showed experience does count for something as they were solid 4 Quarter contributors.
Award Winners: Winslow – Joe Brooks, Silverkey Cafe – Thomas Kilpatrick, Rutherglen Pizza – Damian Thorpe.
U17S
This week was a bit different for the boys, playing Beechworth in Wodonga as the draw for 17s is an alternative draw.
The Rutherglen boys started really well and put pressure on Beechworth right from the first bounce. The Cats 6-foot ruckman Indhi Kotzur returned from injury and gave us first use of the ball the whole game. Charlie Beattie showed why he deserved a representative game for the league (which was played the following day).
Rory Beattie and Charlie James held their own on what were massive wings at Wodonga.
The awards were really hard to pick this week as they could have given it to the whole team.
The lads are looking forward to each week now as a loss will rule us out of finals. If you can please get down to a game as we push for that finals spot, we deserve it would be great support for the boys.

Missing our senior goal shooters today had us on the back foot from the start. Thanks to a couple of ring in’s, Megan, Boof and Hayley who stepped in to help us out. Ella Kinnear was on fire in B grade and then backed it up with 3 quarters in A grade as well coming off with best on court. Our younger girls in C and B grade held their own against a very physical Wodonga side.
Award Winners: Grace – Megan Holmquest, Daisy Cow – Ellie Lea.

Girls played a good clean game today and held their heads high. Defenders had their work cut out with some very strong opposition at the scoring end but managed to give Wodonga a nudge. Shenanigans on court cost them some silly turnovers but good to see the girls having fun.
Award Winners: Exterior Presentations – Charlie Williams, Rutherglen Pizza – Felicity Nesbitt.

The girls ran hard and put in every effort until the last goal. They never gave up and supported each other as a team. Some great intercepts provided opportunities and inspiration. No matter the
score, we are all so proud of you.

Great effort by the girls in a very physical game. Our little mid court girls stepped up again creating beautiful leads and passages of play feeding down into the goal circle. The day definitely belonged to Abbey, dominating at both ends of the court. Shout out to our every reliable goal shooters Grace, Faith and Kaity. Well done girls, you are a bunch of champions.
Award Winners: Tupperware Drink Bottle – Abbey Collis, Caffeine & Machine – Matilda Colwell.
