Seniors

With three brothers out with the unforgivable sin of holidays in football season, which is the same as the taboo marriage during football season, the seniors once again went in with an unsettled side.
Matt Peacock was the beneficiary with his first senior game, a well-deserved effort after strong performances in the reserves.
Tommy Allison continued his stellar season and Thomas Kilpatrick was strong in the ruck with ruck dominance however the Cats couldn’t take advantage of this with centre clearances.
This failure continually put the defensive unit under pressure resulting in the side being on the back foot for much of the day.
The young Cats, however, never gave in and achieved small victories as the game went, just couldn’t convert these victories into scoreboard pressure. Pleasing for the day was the return to form of Ryan Milthorpe who missed the pre-season with illness. Sam Edmondson also threw himself at every contest as has become the norm. Ben Jones is becoming a reliable defender on the football field and Lachie Webb is also starting to show signs of what all at the club know he is capable of. The young lad will become an issue for the opposition in the years to come.
Luke Knight’s on field efforts make up for his off-field efforts- Luke has been a valuable addition to the club with his hard-nosed football and softer side in helping guide our young players in the 14s.
In what has been a difficult season to date at senior level, the morale of the club is strong with a fantastic turn out for the awards at the Star Hotel after the ninety-minute drive from Eskdale, a credit to all.
Scores: Mitta 26.13, Cats 3.3
Awards: Complete Body Craft Mug – Tommy Allison, Star Hotel Yeti Stubby Holder – Ryan Milthorpe, Rutherglen Pizza – Luke Knight.
Reserves
With massive injuries to the club, the Cats continue to fill a full side for the Ressies, four from the juniors in Charlie and Rory Beattie, Charlie James and Lenny Hill.
This showed that training just may assist in playing good football with all four being extremely good, three playing their first reserves game.
Brad Wilson was back from a hamstring injury and will push for senior selection with a strong performance. Aaron Field continued his strong form and would probably have his nose in front in the B&F count. Josh Pagan-Saunders is also beginning to show that he is becoming comfortable with taking on more responsibility within the side.
The lowlight was the zero-possession day of Matty Andison who is living on past glories and was found wanting, Matty is very good runner though. The surprise of the day was the return of Scotty Francis from his nursing home, the running style hasn’t changed or the ability to find the ball.
Scores: Mitta 17.2, Cats 4.4
Awards: Winslow Civil Mug – Matt Andison, Silverkey Café Yeti Stubby Holder – Josh Pagan-Saunders, Rutherglen Pizza – Aaron Field.
Under 17s
The 17s bounced back from the previous week with a big win over Mitta. A strong side took to the field and dominated from the first bounce to the last.
Charlie Beattie came back from senior level and was stronger for the experience with mark after mark to control the middle of the ground. Smooth moving cousin Rory continued his great form from the previous week- senior experience beckons for Rory as well, just need mum on board.
The day belonged to the big Gus Train Williams who snagged a career high eight goals- the big unit also clearing a path for the smaller guys allowing Caleb Waycott and Aidan Berriman to also impact the scoreboard with four and two goals, respectively.
Archer Colvin continued his development as he transitions from strong defender to a running mid. Charlie James is finding strong form after a slow start to the year with illness while the most pleasing aspect of the day is the continued rise of Noah McSweeney who is finding his feet at the Cats.
A shout out to Sonny Enever-Cooper who assisted Mitta, a club his grandfather represented. Sonny was strong all day and could hold his head high. The downside to the day was the concussion injuries two lads who were on the receiving end of some poor tackling, which continues to be a blight on our great game at all levels.
Scores: Mitta 3.3, Cats 17.21
Awards: EDC Cash – Rory Beattie, Rutherglen Pizza – The Gus Train Williams, Ford Family – Noah McSweeney, Flashes Five – Charlie James
Under 14s
An easier day than the previous week with a 150-point victory, with constant supply into the forward line the big forwards ran riot, Jack Torney slotted nine while Jai Nicholson and Dusty Fisher chimed in with four each. Bryce Moloney and Will Baker where also strong with plenty of the heavy lifting in clearing the way for the smaller runners to find space and hit targets.
Hugo and Logan Poole continued their good form around the middle of the ground and then well supported by Tommy Kafarela who transitioned from defence to the midfield.
Though the score may suggest a quiet day in the backline, Mitta did enter forward consistently however just couldn’t crack the defensive unit lead by Lucas Zani to impact the scoreboard.
A big shout out to some of the lads for pulling on the Mitta jumper and helping, Ryan Barkley was extremely strong and gave his all along with Will Baker, Jaylen Cracknell, Tristan Emerson, great sportsmanship lads.
Scores: Mitta 0.0, Cats 23.12
Awards: Corowa Sports Power – Logan Poole, Rutherglen Pizza – Tommy Kafarela, Silverkey Café – Jack Torney, Corowa Hotel – Bryce Moloney, Luke’s Coaches Cash – Will Baker and Hugo Poole.
Under 12s
An early start in the hills with heavy fog was not the start that the 12s were after, then one minute into the game they found themselves a quick goal down, but that was where the bad start to the day finished.
The young Cats knuckled down and got their running game up and going and started to transition from defence to attack with speed and consistently impacted on the scoreboard to have a good win. If the lads continue to play this way extra training with the team song may be warranted.
Awards: Slope Cash – Max Chandler, Silverkey Café – Teddy Gaison, Rutherglen Lolly Shop – Cody Johnson, Coaches – Cain Willet, Logan Fields, Noah Cracknell.
