The Roos will take on host East Albury this Saturday with at least two changes to last match’s side.
Coming in for his first game this season after a knee injury will be fast left-arm opening bowler Jarryd Hatton and top opening batsman Charlie Hemphrey.
B Grade suffered a big loss to the top of the ladder St Patrick’s. Losing the toss, Corowa was asked to bowl first, with wickets to Jay Lavis, Angus Williams, Blake Keenes and Aaron Phibbs it looked evenly poised with St Patrick’s 4 for 82. But a huge 164 run partnership took the game away from Corowa as St Patrick’s amassed 9 for 226 off their 45 overs. Under 16s Levi Phibbs was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 13 off three overs.
In reply in was a disaster for the Corowa batsmen with only Jeremy Carr making it to double figures as Corowa was bowled out for 35.
Under 16s
The Under 16s suffered their first loss for the season going down to Wodonga by 3 runs at Ball Park.
Losing the toss the boys were asked to bowl first with Jack Torney collecting an early wicket but that was the only wicket as Wodonga ran well between wickets to make 117 off their 20 overs.
In reply, Eli Lavis with 35 and Joe Lavis 24 got starts but no one could go on with it as Corowa continually lost wickets as they finished their 20 overs on 9 for 114.
Under 14s Div 1
Facing an unbeaten Baranduda on their home deck, we lost the toss and had a bowl. Our line and length was wayward last match and it seems our collective radars were still off a bit this match.
An early breakthrough to Fin Douglas brought their best batsman to the crease who set about making a quick 30 before retiring and having us under pressure with 77 runs on the board after 10 overs.
With the retirement of their other opener on 30 we changed up the bowling which resulted in a run out of the Baranduda captain as he was starting to look good. Ollie McLellan stepped up to the crease and had impact in both his overs collecting 2/9 off his two overs including a great caught and bowled.
Baranduda powered away to 4/130 after their 20 overs leaving us with a gettable score to chase which started well, being 18 off the first three overs before Jagger was out for 11.
The middle order collapsed, all fell cheaply bringing Abe to the crease with Harry Norman, with our boys 5/35 in the eighth over.
Harry and Abe were combining well before Harry attempted a big shot and was stumped. Of the remaining bats, Abe, Jake and Ollie McLellan batted well however the damage was done and we closed out the 20 overs 9/78, well short of the target.
Under 14s Div 2
The Corowa Under 14 boys cricket team concluded 2025 on a high note with a resounding victory over Howlong in a T20 match played at Balldale. Under hazy skies, the boys showed determination and skill, capping off their season with a celebration-worthy performance.
Corowa lost the toss and was asked to bat first. Opening the innings, Jackson Barber and Oli Matthews set a solid foundation, both retiring at 23 and 16 runs respectively. Their partnership was marked by impressive rotation of the strike, keeping the momentum in Corowa's favour. Leo Davis added to the score with a respectable 11 runs (also retired), while Nathias Price contributed five runs before retiring.
Despite being tied down during their innings, the team kept pushing forward. Albie Wood chipped in with a valued three runs, while both George Smith and Franco Moolman ended the innings not out on seven. Corowa finished strong with a total of 1/89 at the end of their 20 overs.
In the bowling department, Will Torney and Ollie Bedford displayed commendable skills but faced some early misfortune as they bowled well without taking wickets.
The breakthrough came when Oli Matthews and Jaxon Collins took control of the game with crucial wickets, supported by a deft catch from Leo Davis at fine leg that electrified the field.
Albie Wood continued his fine form with the ball, bowling a tidy spell over three overs, and Bailey Hicks brought his ‘A’ game this week, helping to keep Howlong at bay. The team effort resulted in Howlong being restricted to just 78 runs after their 20 overs, sealing Corowa's win by a convincing margin.
Post-match, both teams gathered for a delightful Christmas breakup lunch at the Balldale Hotel.
The camaraderie shared between the players and their families reflected the spirit of cricket.
As the Under 14 boys cricket team looks forward to the rest of the season, their performance in this match serves as a motivating example of teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship. Congratulations to the players, and supporters for a successful start. Here’s hoping for even more success in the new year!
Under 12s Div 1
The Under 12’s Div 1 went down to St Patrick’s White in their clash at Xavier 2. Batting first Corowa batted well making 2 for 115 off their 20 overs, with Geroge Smith top scoring with 24. He was well supported by Austin Loughman with 17 retired, Jake Rhodes 17 retired, Bill Witherden 16 retired and Ollie Bedford 10 not out.
In reply the Corowa boys couldn’t stem the flow of runs as St Patrick’s finished their 20 overs at 6 for 140. Ollie Bedford was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 7 off three overs, he was well supported by Bill Smith who took 1 for 16 off three overs and Jake Rhodes whose two overs went for no runs.
Under 12s Div 2
The Div 2 boys hosted St. Patricks at the Balldale cricket ground. Pattys won the toss and sent us in to bat.
In a very low scoring innings Jobe Ollington top scored with 12 and Harry Closter also batted well for his 8. Finishing the innings on a total of 61.
Up against it the boys produced their best fielding/bowling performance of the year so far holding catches and accurate with their throwing.
Oscar Amor 3/8 and Jobe Ollington 2/3 were the best figures, keeping St Pat’s to a total of 49 off their 20 overs. A big thanks to our scorer this week Ed Nixon. That's a wrap for the first half of the year.
