Rochester golf report
Sixty players competed in the second “Tradies fore Trout” 4-person Ambrose event last Sunday, with teams representing various trades around the district.

Several local clubs were also present and President Leigh Hicks welcomed special guests, Trevor English’s sisters Glenda and Dorraine.
Former junior members and long-time supporters Todd and Kane Charnas joined their father Garry, and Rob Ralph, to win the best net score with a very impressive 4 under score of 67 less 8.75 net (58.75).
Runners-up were the Rich River team, led by the regular visitor in Matt Jean with Ralph, Nathan and Zane Richards to shoot 62 (59.375) from the Lockington crew of Mel Warren, Shane Dyson, Russell Tait, and Rochester member Dan Dockery on (60.5).
Other good scores were recorded by the teams of President Leigh Hicks, Ray George, Wayne Williams and Justin Cleary (61.75), Karen Taylor and Elliot Taylor, Brad and Rachael Taylor (62.25), Will and Kim Dingwall, Shane Connelly and Troy McInness (62.375) and Captain Des Gallagher, Wayne Campbell, R Jaworski and M. Osborne (62.5).
Todd Charnas’s lucky day continued. Not only did he win for his shot for closest to the line on 1, a Straight drive on 10 and long drive for non-handicap players on 18, but he also won the major raffle of a $2500 R.B.N voucher.
Kim Dingwall was closest to the line on 1, while Louise Williams won for the shot on 10 and Rachael Major was the longest for the ladies on 18. Matt Jean won for his 2nd shot on 9 and longest drive on 18, just pipping the unlucky Brad Major, Russell Tait was the other winner for his nice shot to the line on 10 and S.Lonie was closest on 16.
Secretary Louise Williams won $500 as second prize in our major raffle and Di Johnson won $250 for 3rd place.
Jake Wright comfortably leads A-grade for the club’s Men's Championship after his second round of 80 last Saturday from Leigh Hicks who shot 82, although, Chris Eeles struggled in the heavy atmosphere he still leads by 7 shots over David Gebbie after shooting 94 in B-grade.
Bruce Major was the net winner after his 90 (71) playing off the white markers in Saturday’s event, next best was Dan Dockery (73) and Shane Bywaters (76), and ball winners were Eeles, Wright, Hicks, Tim Quinlan and Ian Pollard. Gebbie was closest on 5, Wright on 9, Major on 16 and Hicks was straightest on 10.
Campaspe golf report
Firstly, many thanks to all the sponsors who supported our club for this year’s tournament. The support was fantastic.
Our tournament started on Thursday, with the Ladies 4BBB, a showery day. The promise of rain unfortunately deterred a few teams from attending, and we finished up with a small but elite team of players from Belvoir Park, Elmore, Lockington and Campaspe.
The winners of the day were Sue Slattery and Rosie Punton (Belvoir Park) with a score of 35 points.
The Elmore team, Lorna Wilson and Marilyn Morrell, were runners up with 32 points.
Corrie Holmberg won nearest the pin on the first, second shot. Sue Slattery gained the fifth, but missed out on the big prize and our Lyn Canavan did her usual straightest drive on the fourth.
Lyn was also lucky enough to win the hamper from Ray White and Rosie Punton won the plant. Great fun was had by all.
Friday it was the Men’s turn, and of course they had a lovely sunny spring day for their 4BBB, which also incorporated the Herbertson and Tyson Memorial shield. Visitors arrived from Elmore, Bamawm, Lockington, Rich River, Rushworth, Rochester, Echuca Back Nine and from Bowen in Queensland.
The winners were happy with their large meat trays and also with getting their names on the shield.
Winners were Garrick Campbell and Tony Giesler with a lovely 36 points. They won on a three-way countback from Ray Brereton and Geoff Crossman. Grant and Kevin Humbert just missed out.
Longest Drive: 0-16 Grant Humbert. 17+: Ray Brereton got that one.
Straightest Drive was claimed by Francis Lee.
Nearest the Pin 5th went to Tom Carboon. Should have put it in the hole Tom, you missed the big prize. Nearest the Pin 7th second shot was claimed by Grant Humbert.
Saturday’s game was a 3 way Ambrose. Visitors from Elmore and Kyabram Parkland enjoyed the game.
The Broucek team of Frank, Shane and Will were the winners with 73-12 2/3-60 1/3.
The Elmore team of Bruce and Joy Rasmussen and Marilyn Butcher were the runners up with a score of 77-8 2/3-68 1/3. Straightest Drive was Laurie Radley.
Nearest the Pin on the1st second shot by Joy Rasmussen, 5th Shane Broucek, and the second shot on the 7th Denise Pappin.
Sunday was the Men’s Open Stroke. John Canavan was the day’s winner with 102-19-83 on a countback from Paul Pappin. He scored 111-28-83.
John Canavan got a bit carried away, winning NTP 5th and the 7th second shot and count the putts 30 (on a countback) from Paul Pappin. Laurie Radley was happy with his straightest drive on the fourth.
The $100 RBN raffle was won by Anne Dickson. The $50 gift card from BP went to Sue S. Congratulations ladies.
Another successful Annual Tournament done and dusted.
Bamawm golf
Our annual Bell Day was Tuesday, August 16, with a small but quality field coming out and enjoying a lovely day of golf. Thanks to Rich River, Lockington, Rochester, Mitiamo and Belvoir Park Golf Clubs for supporting our day.
Winners of the Bell Day trophy were the Rochester Golf Club team of Cheryl Hicks, Barb McCarty and Helen Ingram with a score of 243.
Individual winners on the day were, A grade Scratch- Deb Bish 89. A grade Nett- Joan James 94-19-75. A grade Nett Runner up- Judy Lawler 96-17-79. B grade Scratch- Barb MCarty 102. B grade Nett-Pauline Humbert 105-27-78. B grade Nett Runner up- Jenny Holt 108-27-81. NTP 3rd shot 4/13- Deb Bish. NTP 3rd shot 5/14- Deb Bish. NTP 7/16- Marion Whatley. Sunday (August 21): Well it was a beautiful day for our Captains Day on Sunday with a quality field competing in a stableford competition. Thanks to Kath and Frank for all of their hard work throughout the year, it does not go unnoticed and we are so lucky to have you both.
The winner of the ladies trophy was Denise Newth, with captain Kath Connors runner up.
Winner of the men’s trophy was Sam Newth with 35 points, with Graham Leys runner up on 33 points.
