CDHBU’s senior footballers hit the road to take on the Lockhart Demons in Round 3 of the Hume League competition.
With a strong start to the season, winning their first two games, the Power were looking to continue their winning form against a tough opponent.
However, with five changes to the side due to sickness and injury, including two debutants, it was going to be a test of the team's depth.
Nonetheless, the Power were determined to come away with another victory and maintain their momentum going forward.
The game saw two debutants, Jason Marks and Lachlan McGill, as well as Alex Wallis coming in for his first game of the year.
Power got off to a strong start, creating plenty of trouble for the Demons defense, with newcomer Marksy and skipper Rhodes getting their hands on the ball early.
Bevo proved to be a great target up front, kicking three early goals. However, towards the end of the quarter, the Demons managed to get on top, scoring a couple of goals due to the Power's lack of defensive effort.
Despite this, the Power remained in front at quarter time, 5.2.32 to 2.1.13.
The second quarter proved to be a very even contest, with both teams surging the ball forward. While the Power were getting beaten in clearances, they managed to move the ball well after causing turnovers.
Ferguson and Ethan Hanrahan controlled things down back, while Wallis and Deaken Clancy were super competitive in the air down forward.
The Power managed to extend their lead to 28 at half time with goals from Bevo, Clancy, Wallis, and CJ.
At half time, the Power made a few changes, with Wallis moving into the midfield and Cody Kuschert to CHF.
This proved to have a big impact on the game, as the Power got on top in the middle and found new avenues to goal. While they struggled to make the most of their opportunities, Brent Rose created havoc across half forward, as did Kush. Butler and Skipper Phibbs both lifted the pressure around the ball, and three goals to one saw the lead extend to 33 at three-quarter time.
The Demons came out attacking in the last quarter, putting the Power defenders under immense pressure. However, the Power managed to hold them off, with Jord Wilson and Springer competing well and holding firm down back. Goals to Bevo and CJ were important, and while the Demons outscored the Power in the last, it wasn't enough, and the Power came away with a 28-point victory.
While Power played well at times, ball movement wasn't as smooth as last week, but still gave their forwards plenty of chances to kick a winning score.
Power play at home against Henty in the next round and are looking forward to getting back on their home deck at Power Park.
The Reserves and Under 17s also had solid wins, while unfortunately, the U14s couldn't get the win.
