Hardcourt had a slender lead early, but Corowa hit back to level the scores with the final 3 sets to play. The result was all but done when Hardcourt’s Mario Pane and Andy Lucas won 8-0, then Corowa’s Marianne Spencer and Mel Rhodes won 8-2 to have the match on a knife’s edge.
The last set see-sawed as each team had the advantage and momentum at different times but it was Matt Curran and Kerrie Henderson that held strong for Hardcourt to ease them over line and a four-game victory.
Hardcourt’s best was Mario Pane (3 sets), Matt Curran and Kerrie Henderson. Corowa were best represented by Peter Filliponi, Greg Filliponi and Marianne Spencer (2 sets each).
Boorhaman were on the brink of an upset against Everton when they won 2 of the first 3 sets but as good teams do, Everton overcame a sluggish start to win the next 3 sets and regain the ascendancy, and then went on to complete a comfortable victory.
Everton had none better than Jo Lucas and Bec Sacco (3 sets each), Boorhaman were led by Darren Saward, Jack Nolan and Sally O’Donahue.
Section 3
Wooragee (Mark Knoth, Ian McVea, Dean Bensted, Eiylish McCrostie) were too good for Wahgunyah Deep Heat (Josh Reid, Jacob Palmer, Kendall Reid, Katie Bergin) and moved to 2nd place on the ladder.
This could be Wooragee’s best chance to snare an elusive flag if they continue their consistent form.
Wahgunyah Wranglers (Jesse Johnstone, Jax Johnstone, Wayne Johnstone, Ali Bartel) eased their way past Wahgunyah United (Brian Schmidt, Lorraine Plunkett, Clara Davis, Dorryelle Carmody) to claim top spot on the ladder.
