Rutherglen have established themselves as the dominant team this year after they demolished rival Wahgunyah by a large margin. Wahgunyah were missing a couple of stars but the gap between Rutherglen and Wahgunyah is so evident that the additional players wouldn't have affected the result by enough for it to change.
Rutherglen held all the answers to any of the challenges Wahgunyah were able to muster, it was Rutherglen's evenness across the team that ultimately proved to be the difference in the end.
Rachael Crawford, Sheree Coghill and Lindsay Seymour were unstoppable for Rutherglen, Wahgunyah had Travis McDonald, Jesse Johnstone and Mareeta Corcoran battling against the odds to be Wahgunyah's best.
Boorhaman and Everton Red traded blows all day with the lead changing constantly while the result was in doubt all day until Boorhaman gained the ascendancy in the mixed sets by winning 2 of the 3 mixed sets to set up their victory by a set and 5 games. Good players were easy to find for both sides, Boorhaman were led by Merryn Byrne (3 sets) and 2 sets to Jack Nolan and Shirley Fuller. Everton's best was Alan Wood, Russell Bennett and Leanne Wood.
Hardcourt Pulvirenti have arrived as a team rather than a team with potential after their win on Saturday over Myrrhee. The youth policy at Hardcourt is starting to bear fruit and with the likes of Henry Dean, Liam Suter, Mia Mitchell, Matilda Dean and Chris Lestino the future of tennis at the Hardcourt complex is in good hands.
Pulvirenti dominated Myrrhee from the outset with youthful eagerness and precision shot making to ensure Myrrhee were never a chance to snatch a victory. Di Griffin, Cathy Van Berlo and Phil Corker shone brightly for Myrrhee.
Corowa started their match against Everton Blue brightly winning the first 3 sets and a demolition job was on the cards but Everton Blue surged and won the next 3 sets to hold 2 game advantage heading into the mixed sets. Unfortunately for Everton that's where the comeback stalled, and Corowa won the next 3 sets to run out winners by 6 games. Everton Blue gave Corowa a fright which meant that Corowa had to call on all their vast knowledge and experience to overcome Everton in the final analysis. Corowa had none better than Marianne Spencer (3 sets) and was ably supported by Anne Rhodes and Jo Mathews. Ben Kneebone was Everton Blue's best while Dave Postlewaite, Bec Sacco and Stacey Thomas contributed to ensure the result was close.
Section 3
Wahgunyah Wahnation (Ollie Struve, Kane Palmer, Brett Skinner, Josh Parker) continued their winning form with a victory over Wahgunyah United (Brian Jones, Dave Harris, Matt Davis, Clara Davis) in convincing style. Wahgunyah Wranglers(Wayne Johnstone, Mitch Parker, Jaxx Johnstone, Ali Bartel) are slowly and unobtrusively climbing their way up the Section 3 ladder with another win against Wooragee (Dean Bensted, Eiylish McCrostie, Bron Matirn, Coops).
Wooragee have slipped of the pace over the last couple weeks and will need to find some consistency to fill a position in the top four.
Boorhaman (Kane Tyers, Darby Pane, Jack Keys, Danielle Tyers) are the bolters of Section 3 after their win over Wahgunyah Deep Heat (Jacob Palmer, Katie Bergin, Kath Blake, Teagan Irlam) they have cemented their spot in the top 3 teams of Section 3.
Deep Heat are one of the unluckiest teams in Section 3, week after week they produce performances worthy of victories but always manage to find ways to let the match slip out of their grasp.
