Hardcourt Pinkerton claimed the huge scalp of Corowa on Saturday and enhanced their flag aspirations with the win. The power hitting of Hardcourt's Chris Lucas proved the difference between the teams in the end.
Lynne Sheppard provided the assistance to Chris winning 2 sets, Mariane Spencer with 3 and Darrell Spencer with 2 ensured Corowa were always a chance of snatching victory.
Everton Blue caused the upset of the round, defeating Rutherglen by a comfortable margin. Rutherglen were missing quite a few regulars who would have made the difference to the result but as John Kennedy (legendary football coach) says "they have arms and legs just like us and you can only play the players they put on the park on the day". Everton’s shining lights were Mick Cavallin and Jarrod Kneebone (3 sets each) while Coralie Peters found her
rhythm late in the match for Everton. Tazanne James (3 sets) was an unstoppable force for Rutherglen and with support from Helen Fuge and Jono "too many" Keys, Rutherglen were always within striking distance.
Wahgunyah have continued their impressive season thus far with a crushing victory over the youthful Hardcourt Pulvirenit side. Wahgunyah have got better as the season has worn on and developed into a side that can't be taken lightly. Hardcourt Pulvirenti tried everything to overcome the might of Wahgunyah by running everything down, but Wahgunyah had all the answers and experience. Ollie Sturve, Sonia Palmer and Mareeta Corcoran were Wahgunyah's best while Cashen Monk, Henry Dean and Tanya Deaning were Pulvirenti's best.
Section 3
Wahgunyah Wranglers (Wayne Johnstone, Alison Bartel, Lilly Palmer, Jaxx Johnstone) defeated Wahgunyah Deep Heat (Kenadll Reid, Jacob Palmer, Kath Blake, Katie Bergin) in a keenly and tightly contested match. Deep Heat always seem to find ways to lose matches, they can be in sets for long distances but just can't manage to win the important points when required. Although nothing can be taken away from the Wranglers they performed well under pressure and were steady in a crisis to complete a comfortable victory.
Wahgunyah Wahnation (Kane Palmer, Jack Reid, Jake Mason) had a comfortable win over Wooragee (Skip Peiper, Dean Bensted, Bron Martin, Eiylish McCrostie) to enhance their status as the team to beat this year.
