The crowd of blue was in full force on Sunday to support the A Grade Roo girls at the WJ Findlay reserve. The game started with tough intensity from both sides, with lots of contested balls, seeing Magpies with a lead 9-7 at quarter time.
The second quarter saw the Magpies come out firing defensively, but with patience, the Roos’ defence and mid-courters applied plenty of pressure, and their patience was rewarded, transitioning the ball down to our shooters to convert.
At one time they were five goals down in the second quarter, but the girls chipped away finishing the second quarter with a three goal lead 20-17.
The Roos’ third quarter saw them adapt to some positional changes made on court but they showed their trust collectively in each other, particularly on the feed into the goalers. Our eighth player - the incredible ‘Corowa Crowd’ - only lifted the girls more, to lead the game by seven at three-quarter time.
With confidence and connection high, the final quarter saw the Roos continue the momentum with beautiful cross-court pressure resulting in turnovers and exceptional game play, coming out the victors!
The supporters couldn’t be prouder or more excited for the Roo girls and look forward to the next hurdle in Wodonga Raiders in the preliminary final on Saturday. Best: 3-Sophie Hanrahan, 2-Indianna Frauenfelder, 1-Leah Bihun.
A big thanks to the hugely impactful and uplifting Corowa crowd who make it feel like the whole town is present and getting around the girls.
The Roos’ presentation night is on the October 4 at Club Corowa. Tickets are available on line. Adults $66 and $45 for 17s and under ages. All welcome to attend – players, families, volunteers and supporters.
