Its fourth win in a row to start the season, the Steamers managed the win off a big 24-7 shot win in the rink skipped by Michael Linehan, with his team of Brian Davie (lead), Stuart Whyte (second) and Brian Franklin (third) proving the difference in the contest.
Tongala managed a one-shot win with the Bradley Tinning-skipped side, who claimed the contest 14-13, however a 21-21 draw in the other remaining rink saw Moama run out comfortable victors to continue its unblemished start to the year.
The Steamers will play Deniliquin this weekend in a bid to win its fifth consecutive match, while Tongala will look to find form against Mathoura.
Stanhope managed to put its second win for the season on the board when it defeated Echuca 13-54 to 3-48.
Skips James Ferrier (Echuca) and Peter Myers (Stanhope) couldn’t be split in their rink, playing out a 20-20 draw, while Echuca clinched a tight 14-13 win in the rink skipped by Steve Cunnington.
But Stanhope managed to take the win courtesy of the Gregory Fitzpatrick-led rink, winning 21-14. This proved to be enough to take the overall win in a tightly contested affair.
Stanhope will travel to take on Rich River this weekend, while Echuca will play Rochester away from home.
Rochester managed to defeat Rich River 12-55 to 4-50 at the weekend, despite only claiming one of the three rinks.
In the rink skipped by John Weeks, with Robert Clayton (lead), Margaret Knight (second) and Leslie Walles (third) in support, Rochester earned a huge 31-8 win, which proved pivotal to the overall outcome.
Rich River claimed victory in the remaining two match-ups, with Keith Hewitt skipping his team to an 18-12 win, while Trevor Nagorcka led a 24-12 effort from his team.
Yet Rochester’s big margin of victory in their sole win proved enough to claim overall honours.
Rich River will look to rebound swiftly when they host Stanhope in round five, while Rochester will be looking for another home win when they face Echuca.
Mathoura claimed the big scalp of Deniliquin when the two sides faced off in round four, prevailing 14-68 to 2-63.
The sole success for Deniliquin came in the rink skipped by Jamie Shields, powering the side to a 21-15 victory, however wins for Mathoura in the rinks led by Jason McCloy (25-20) and Peter Holzer (28-22) saw them triumph safely.
Mathoura will host Tongala on the weekend as they look to consolidate second spot on the ladder, while Deniliquin will face the undefeated Moama.
Division Two
Moama continued its winning ways in division two, staying unbeaten with a 14-88 to 2-51 win over Tongala.
Echuca managed a big win in its clash against Mathoura, triumphing 16-71 to 0-55, while Deniliquin also claimed every rink in its 16-60 to 0-44 win over Rochester.
Rich River were victors over Deni RSL, prevailing 13-55 to 3-45.
Disivion Three
Moama proved too strong for Echuca when the two sides met in round four, winning 14-75 to 2-53 to stay unbeaten so far this season.
Stanhope won every rink in a 16-68 to 0-49 triumph over Rochester, while Deni RSL also recorded a big 14-81 to 2-40 win against Lockington.
Rich River claimed a hard-fought 14-60 to 2-50 win over Elmore, and Deniliquin beat Mathoura 14-86 to 2-54.
Division Four
Two teams remain unbeaten following round four action in division four.
Moama secured a 16-74 to 0-37 win over Lockington to continue to hold top spot on the ladder, while Echuca’s 14-62 to 2-47 win over Deniliquin RSL ensured they remain in second spot.
Stanhope claimed a big 16-81 to 0-42 win over Ky Valley View, and Rich River took home the points after a 15-58 to 1-50 win against Tongala.
Division Five
Moama Black remains unbeaten in division five following a 14-39 to 0-34 win against Echuca, while Moama Green and Lockington drew 7-34 apiece in the only other round four match.
Elmore claimed maximum points after Tongala forfeited in their match-up, as did Echuca White after Rochester forfeited also.
