Over 200 players are expected for both the Saturday and Sunday competitions and there will be a star-studded line-up for the free Sportsman’s Night Saturday.
It all begins with the Friday night Mizuno Shootout from 5.00pm to 8.00pm, with double the prize money this year, with $2,000 up for grabs. Each participant will receive two free balls with their MFA entry. The Friday night is open to ambrose participants and the general public.
“We’re rapt for Mizuno’s continued and increasing support, and we’re thrilled to have Nelson Aviation on board, generously donating $1,000 for nearest the pin on the practice fairway,” chief organiser for the 13-year-to-date event Shaun (Magro) Whitechurch told The Free Press.
“There will be music and a fun-filled Mizuno Shootout to kick off proceedings.”
The event’s date has changed as this timing is now found to be the most suitable for participants leaving the March long weekend free for the valued participants.
Saturday night’s entertainment is always a big hit with golfers. It’s free admission to hear a question and answer format with Magro at the microphone.
Former high-flying AFL forward Shaun Smith with Melbourne and formerly with North Melbourne took many screamers in his time including mark of the century in 1995 at the Gabba against Brisbane. The kick for goal by Dees’ skipper David Neitz was high and short. The No. 29 for the Dees took the spectacular mark in the goal square.
The now 55-year-old has an interesting story and Magro is the person to extract it. Two other names to attend are expected to be confirmed for the Saturday night talk show, including a North Melbourne AFLW player.
Magro always recruits someone unexpected from a different-than-sport field. Former detective sergeant covering underworld crimes, Paul Dale will be on stage. “He has told me no question is off limits,” the chief organiser said.
