Former Richmond and GWS star Brett Deledio will take to the field for Tongala alongside brother Matt, with the pair, which hails from Kyabram, set to provide a big boost for the Blues side coached by its brother-in-law Billy Barnes.
“We’re excited to have the boys (Brett and Matt), obviously a lot of experience coming back into the side,” Barnes said.
“I think it'll be fantastic because we have also got a sportsman’s night with Footy and Friends and Dylan Buckley, Michael Barlow and Brett Deledio leading that in the night time as well, so it's going to be a great weekend for the footy club.”
While aided by the inclusion of the Deledios, Tonny will still have its work cut out for it, with the side coming up against a Numurkah team that will no doubt be smarting after a 43-point loss last weekend to Congupna.
Moama Recreation Reserve will host a big clash between the Magpies and Deniliquin, with the two sides set to resume what was a brilliant battle last season.
In round 16 last season the two sides played out a three-point thriller, with Moama taking the chocolates on that occasion, and co-coach Jye Warren knows his side will have to be switched on this weekend to get the win.
“Number one priority for us is to get a good start,” Warren said when asked of his side’s main priority when facing the Rams, given their slow start against Rumbalara last weekend.
“We need to get a good start to get the ball rolling I guess and, just obviously, maintain that over four quarters.
“We felt that we only played 15 to 20 minutes of exceptional football on the weekend, so we need to do that for four quarters this weekend to beat Deni.”
Echuca United will travel to Scott Oval to take on Cobram as the Eagles continue to search for their first win under Scott Beattie this season.
The Eagles showed improvement last week against Tongala following a heavy opening round loss against Moama and will look to put in a strong showing against the Tigers.
Early flag favourite Congupna will look to continue its undefeated run when it plays host to Rumbalara on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, after last weekend’s 10-point defeat to Deniliquin, Nathalia will look to get back on the winners’ list when it takes on Barooga.
On the netball court, Moama will look to fire back from last week’s loss to Rumbalara when it takes on powerhouse side Deniliquin, which also suffered a loss last weekend at the hands of Nathalia.
Reigning premier Tongala looks set to make it three from three when it takes on the winless Numurkah, while Echuca United will square off against Cobram in what is set to be a good challenge for Tanner Edwards’ charges.
