Fresh from his brilliant effort in this year’s Australian Open, star international Matty Millar will headline this Sunday’s Golf Blitz at Howlong, with action underway at 2.00pm.
The 46-year-old fired a final round last Sunday at Victoria Golf Club of three-under par 69 for an overall five-under total to finish tied seventh. Fellow Australians Adam Scott, Min Woo Lee and Haydn Barron finished in front of him, in a class field including Cameron Smith and the 2022 winner Adrian Meronk from Poland with a five-stroke, 14 under victory.
Other star internationals for Howlong include Wodonga’s Zac Murray, and big-hitters Lincoln Tighe and Tim Hart.
Lady professional Casey Wild, who also played in the Australian Open in a revised format with men, women and disabled world competitions, will be among the lady professionals at Howlong.
Corowa professional James Gordon and Howlong professional Paul Steiner have received wild cards into the Howlong event.
Howlong action hits off at 2.00pm with the professionals teeing up this Sunday. Amateurs can enter a 9 hole blitz shootout on a modified hole layout with the winner qualifying for the blitz final in Adelaide next year
“Sit at the stadium hole and watch the pros hit across the water to the modified par 3 in front of the deck,” was the suggestion to local spectators by Howlong Golf Resort’s General Manager Shaun Whitechurch.
“It will be a spectacular day with awesome golf, music, food and you can get up close to the pros. There’ll be plenty for kids too, with face painting and the jumping castle.”
