The croquet players were responsible for cutting up the tomato and lettuce for the Tennis Club’s souvlaki stand at the muster, many coming last Thursday and Friday morning to do this.
Three of our male players are turning 90 next year, and they were cutting away supporting the tennis club.
As our president Leo Barry said, quoting Mark Twain, “Age is a mind over matter - if you don't mind, it does not matter”.
On the courts, Deniliquin's croquet pennant team unfortunately lost against Euroa last Thursday, October 3.
The team consisted of Leo Barry, Tony Bull, Alan Higgins and Peter Whittakers.
The team now has 62 points to be 5th of 12 teams taking part.
On Tuesday, October 8, the team played Numurkah Blue in Deniliquin.
Fred Littmann from Deni and Kerry Cullen from Colac were runners-up in an Association Croquet weekend at Boort Croquet Club last weekend.
Sunday, saw 12 players turn up on a brisk morning, and there were two individual three game winners.
First was Brad Fawns and second was Allan Tonta.
Two game winners were Faye Druitt and Brian Dudley, with many jump shots. Allan Tonta, Brad Fawns, Rod Fawns and Alan Higgins all had one each.
On Tuesday, the local club had visitors from the Probus Club who wanted to know more about croquet.
It was a beautiful day and some Probus members will be an asset to our club, and enjoyed the game.
Maureen Fitzmaurice gave thanks to The Probus Club for the donation they made to the club on the day.
Fourteen players turned up on a beautiful spring Wednesday morning for play.
There were three individual three game winners, with Rex Kernick first, Alan Higgins second and Graeme Bradford third.
Two game winners were Judy Barry, Peter Whittakers and Mary James.
Rod Fawns had two jump shots, and Leo Barry one.
A reminder that this Sunday is Challen Cup. Play will start at 9am and players are also required to bring their own lunch.
