Under 14s
Mother nature provided some fantastic weather for a game of footy this week. The under 14s were home to 5th placed Raiders as the Roos fought to remain in the top 4.
The boys started well with some good pressure in their forward line resulting in the ball staying in there and the first goal for the Roos kicked by Cooper Patten.
The second goal of the quarter again came from great forward pressure with Raiders trying to exit their defensive 50.
Toby Hanrahan was able to gather the ball from a marking contest on our forward 50 and kicked the ball towards our goal square. It bounced past the goal square, however Josh Hunter was able to gather it before it went over the line. Knowing he had a Raiders player on him he handballed it back to the square where Ajay was waiting scoring the 2nd goal of the quarter.
The Raiders were able to kick a late goal to cut the margin to 7 points. The Raiders were dominant around the ground in the 2nd quarter kicking two goals to take the lead.
Franklin Murray-Wright managed to take a mark 40m out from our goal converting for a goal against the run of play to give the Roos back the lead at half time.
The 3rd quarter was heavily contested around the ground however the Raiders took the lead with two goals. The Roos pegged one back as the siren sounded with Ajay kicking his 2nd goal of the day on the siren to end the third term. Raiders by 4 points.
With their season on the line the boys went out for the last quarter determined to bring home the win.
The last quarter was again heavily contested around the ground but the Raiders again were the ones having an impact on the scoreboard to register the only goal for the quarter before running out winners 43-32.
With 5 games left in the season the Roos now face a difficult challenge to make the finals but have the faith that they can come out after the bye and put a good 5 weeks of footy together to challenge for a spot in the finals
