North Albury 3.5.23 def Corowa Rutherglen 1.2.8
Cold and drizzly was the order of the day as the Under 12 Roos took on North Albury at Bunton Park on Sunday.
Wet conditions made for a slippery ball and the Roos struggled to keep the pill in hand.
The solid defence of Jai Richey and Rydah Brown and some excellent ball movement from Josh Parker and Abe Spencer kept the boys in the contest, though at half-time, the score sat at (NA) 2.4.16 to 0.2.2 (CR).
Hooter asked the boys to lift their intensity after the break and they came to the party. Some strong tackling from Finley Douglas and slick play from Jagger Doody saw the ball start to move more freely.
Ollie Matthews and Darcy Upton started to move the ball out of the ruck efficiently, resulting in the first goal of the year to Josh Parker.
The boys more than held their own in a tight second half.
This week's awards went to: Josh Parker, Jake Witherden, Abe Spencer, Jagger Doody, Jaxx Johnstone, and Finley Douglas.
Under 14s
North Albury 7.11.53 def Corowa Rutherglen 0.1.1.
The Under 14 Roos faced a tough challenge, attempting to fall the tall timber of North Albury on a wintry morning at Bunton Park.
The boys got off to an innocuous start, conceding an early goal, setting the tone for a busy morning for the backmen.
Brodie White was all effort and Cohen Wilcox threw his frame around effectively. However, the North Albury midfield proved challenging to penetrate.
Will Forrest was consistent in the back and sought opportunities to find players in forward positions.
However, despite the strong attacking efforts of Joe Lavis, Eli Lavis, and Frankin Murray-Wright, they couldn't seem to break through the North Albury defensive wall.
The boys went into the break 26 points down.
Coach Patto had some home truths for the boys at the break, asking that they engage in the contest and fight for the ball.
However, they could match the North Albury team for size or intensity, falling off tackles and struggling to move the ball forward.
Will Massey and Emmett Northey continued to scrap hard and Hudson Kuschery and Lachlan Ireland were relentless at the defensive end until the final whistle.
Awards this week: Brodies White (Painters), Will Massey (Peter Ellis), Emmett Northey (TH Kitchens), Will Forrest (Little Oasis), Eli Lavis (A&A Auto), Hudson Kuschert (Bilney Builders), Lachie Ireland (Ricky D's).
