The Rutherglen Cats made up for their agonising one-point loss against Tallangatta in round three by defeating the Hoppers by 44 points at Barkly Park on Saturday.
The weather gods welcomed round 15 with a cracking day as the club celebrated the Donate Life Round. The club was also lucky enough to have been joined by WorkSafe Victoria for their Country Club Series.
The young Cats had a real focus on this round against the Hoppers after their round three defeat and the first quarter showed that they are capable of mixing it with teams above us on the ladder.
Jarryd Hatton was on fire up forward early helping the Cats to an 11-point buffer at quarter time.
The second quarter saw the Cats lift their tempo with Van Berlo feeding the likes of Edmondson and the Tanner boys in the midfield and giving the forwards a lot of opportunity to score and hold a 26-point lead at the main break.
The third saw a bit of an arm wrestle with both sides scoring only two goals each. With Scooter tweaking a few things at the break the Cats reloaded and kicked four goals to none in the final term to record a 44-point win and take some momentum into this coming week.

Cats 16-13-108 def Tallangatta 6-6-42
The Cats Reserves had a very good win on Saturday, and we thank Tallangatta FNC for making a big effort to get a real competitive team together and put on a good show for the big crowd that were keen to see a good game of footy.
Both teams didn’t disappoint as it was a good game of footy to watch. Huge thankyou to our Cats boys that put on a Hoppers jumper to help out Tallangatta at different stages during the game.

Cats 9-14-68 def Tallangatta 8-3-51
The boys made a good start, kicking three goals, six to Tallangatta’s zero in the first quarter.
The backline and the two captains, Fred and Archer, combined with Mitch Francis, all played well together throughout the game.
The forwards’ lack of movement and inaccurate kicking saw Tallangatta trail by only 18 points at halftime.
In what should have been an easy win, continued inaccurate kicking, lack of movement and failure to get heads over the ball when it counted made for a tense final quarter. In saying that Harry Chandler, Flynn Verhulst and Lucas Moore contributed well to the winning score.
Missing the height and experience of Snowy Barnes in ruck impacted on the game but Charlie Poole filled the role well.
The boys will need to bring their best game to beat Beechworth at Beechworth next week. Go Cats!
Goals: Harry Chandler 3, Flynn Verhulst 3, Lucas Moore 2, Laiton Hetherington 1.
Awards: Rutherglen Pizza – Liam Bulmer, Silver Key Café – Ollie Nash-Webster, Corowa Sportspower – Harry Chandler, Schnitz Albury – Fred Jackson, Coaches Awards – Lucas Moore.

Cats 10-13-73 def Tallangatta 1-3-9
The Under 14s team faced a determined Tallangatta outfit on the Cats’ home turf.
In the first quarter, the Cats scored 15 points, and many of the team were well held by their opposition.
Again, the second quarter was a tight affair, and Rutherglen went into the long break with only a 21-point lead.
Dustin Fisher continued his strong season form and was important in the centre of the ground teaming up with the ruck led by Jax Ramsay and supported by Brayden McInnes.
Liam Colvin provided a strong presence in the backline and nullified any forward passages of play from Tallangatta. Lucas Zani enjoyed being swung up forward and provided a marking target.
The game began to open up in the third quarter as Rutherglen started to play their style of game. Arthur Morris was important, and Aiden Sibraa scored 3 goals.
At the final siren, Rutherglen ran away with a 64-point win. They now sit comfortably in third place on the ladder and are looking forward to playing Beechworth next week.

This week we hosted Tallangatta and it was a nice change to start the game with some sunshine.
The team started the game off well with goals from Will Giason and Cody O’Donoghue in the first quarter.
The second quarter was a tough one, with Tallangatta raising the pressure around the ball, resulting in neither side kicking a goal. From there, it was, at times, a scrappy game, but the guys pulled away with a hard-fought win.

A Tough morning out for the girls who took on ladder leaders Tallangatta at home on Saturday.
There were some great passages of play throughout the game especially from Faith who was feeding the ball into our shooters beautifully.
The defence was also fantastic with Holly and Cadie. Keep working hard, girls. All your efforts will pay off soon.

Our littlest Cats played an amazing game this week, the score didn’t reflect the effort they put in and the skills that they have been learning at training, all starting to pay off heaps.
