Citizen of the year: Garry Major, first Kyabram Citizen of the year, with his citation and award in February 1981. Back row - Ian Haslem, unknown, Vera Bennett, Ron Pope, Ralph Evans, Len Churches. Front row - Garry Major and his wife, Margaret, Marj Lancaster, Wendy Major and Gary Gledhill.

Garry Major had the honour of receiving the first Kyabram Citizen of the Year award in 1981.

Mayor Anne Adams presented the award to Mr Major with a citation and a memento of the occasion during the Town of Kyabram Council meeting in February 1981.

Mr Major had been chosen for his work for the Kyabram Fauna Park, Field and Game Association and in fighting for technical education for Kyabram Students. He was chairman of the Kyabram Fauna Park committee of management at that time and was the park’s ranger for two years from 1975. He had also held both the position of secretary and president with the Kyabram Field and Game Association and had been on the state council since 1973.

Mr Major’s specialised knowledge and hard work played a large part in the success of the fauna park.

Mr Major was nominated by the Kyabram Apex Club.
