This is a sentiment mirrored by the Bangerang Liquor Accord after a recent rise in the number of alcohol related incidents in Corowa stemming from the Kings Birthday long weekend and assaults occurring at Club Corowa in late April and most recently on State of Origin night on June 26.
On this occasion, four Corowa family members were sitting trying to enjoy the football match on the big screen when they were attacked initially by a male and female from an adjacent table.
What transpired from this point, can only be described as disgraceful behaviour as one 39-year-old male from Sunbury, Victoria, a 41 year old female from Heathcote, Victoria and a 60 year old male from Western Australia conducted themselves in such a manner that they are now being investigated for the offences of common assault and affray.
Corowa Police Sergeant Stephen Marshall said he was particularly disgusted in a number of the male patrons who thought it was acceptable behaviour to assault females, particularly when those females had their backs turned to them.
“This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated and police will be taking action once the incident has been fully investigated through the utilising of the various CCTV camera angles at ClubCorowa,” Sergeant Marshall said.
“Police are aware that ClubCorowa will be taking action against those involved as well with significant sanctions placed on those involved.”
Founding member of the Bangerang Liquor Accord and Club Corowa CEO and Peter Norris echoed the sentiments of Corowa Police.
“Most visitors to our venue are extremely respectful and well-behaved, it has been really disappointing to have these incidents in our venue,” Mr Norris said.
“Both myself and my board, are taking a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour at ClubCorowa and have recently handed-down life-time bans to both members and guests involved in serious incidents.
“If you enter our venue, and make the choice to act violently, or to abuse staff or other patrons, then you can expect to be handed a very lengthy ban from ClubCorowa.”
