The change in leadership signals a fresh perspective for the organisation, which has been serving the community for nearly half a century.
The newly elected leadership team poised to steer the Corowa Rescue Squad into the future includes President Taz Slot, supported by Vice President Ashley Carter, Ben Wilson as Captain, Nathan Cranston as Senior Deputy Captain, and Ruth Clifton, who will assume the role of Secretary. Jim Walliss will continue to serve as the treasurer.
In addition, Rob Slot and Alan Robb will hold deputy captain positions, acknowledging their long-standing service to the squad.
The transition in leadership is seen as a significant step forward, aligning with the squad’s succession planning strategy.
President Taz commended past president Rob and captain Alan for their dedicated service to the Corowa Rescue Squad.
“It’s an honour to lead this team, and we are grateful to those who have come before us,” she said.
“We are committed to upholding their legacy of service and dedication.”
The past year has proven to be the busiest in recent memory for the Corowa Rescue Squad, as they faced a barrage of emergencies. Severe floods, persistent wet weather, and various other crises have kept the squad on high alert. The demands placed on the members have been substantial, in particular the two recent road tragedies in Corowa and near Brocklesby, highlighting the critical role they play local emergency response.
Currently, the squad boasts 16 members, thanks to a successful recent recruitment drive. This growth is essential to meet the increasing demand for their services in the region.
The Corowa Rescue Squad has a rich history dating back to its formation in 1978, spurred by tragic events that highlighted the need for a dedicated rescue unit.
The squad also acquired a state-of-the-art rescue vehicle in June, marking a significant milestone in their operations, and enhancing their life-saving capabilities.
With the new leadership team and upgraded resources, the Corowa Rescue Squad is well-prepared to continue their vital work, providing crucial assistance to the community during times of need.
