The deed is a vastly updated deed from the original one signed prior to 1 July 2022, as a result of the recent dispute between the remaining member Councils/Riverina Regional Library, and the Wagga City Council, following their exit effective 1 July 2024.
Federation Council was advised of a major dispute that resulted in significant legal action, when Wagga City Council no longer wanted to be a part of the Riverina Regional Library (RRL) service.
“Wagga was the host council of RRL, and the bulk of the dispute arose from how to treat the RRL on the exit of Wagga, in terms of assets and cash reserves,” Federation Council’s General Manager Adrian Butler said at council’s latest monthly meeting on August 27.
“The matter has now been finalised, however all remaining member councils and state libraries felt it very prudent to strengthen the deed to give more definition around various areas, including specifically the entry and exit of member councils.”
The deed has been agreed to by the board of RRL and is being circulated to all member councils for execution.
In respect of Federation Council, a static library service in Corowa, Howlong and Mulwala is provided and a mobile library service in Boree Creek, Oaklands, Rand and Urana.
Library membership is encouraged by promoting the range of services available. School holiday programs across the council area are provided.
A free delivery service is provided to housebound library patrons.
