The car she was driving was stopped on the Cobb Highway at Deniliquin about 12.20am, during which police say she returned a positive roadside breath test.
She was taken back to the Deniliquin Police Station, where the breath analysis reading was recorded.
The woman’s licence was suspended on the spot, and she was charged with driving with a high range prescribed concentration of alcohol.
She is to appear in Deniliquin Local Court on January 15.
Operation ongoing
Local police are reminding local and visiting motorists to take extra care on the roads this festive period.
Operation Christmas/New Year will run until 11.59pm on January 1, with double demerit points in effect.
But Deniliquin-based Murray River Police District Chief Inspector Michael Fuller said keeping your points is not the only benefit of obeying the road rules.
“So far over the Christmas period, Deniliquin Police have not had to respond to any serious motor vehicle collisions in the district,” she said.
“As we get over Christmas Day and move towards New Year’s Eve, please remember that double demerits remain in force and police continue to focus on road safety in relation to road speed limits, drink and drug driving and related safety offences.
“If you have friends and family visiting or are travelling long distances, please ensure you plan your trip, take plenty of breaks and get to where you are going safely.
“If you are drinking, know your limits and always have a plan B as to how to get home safely.”
