A total of 39 tractors and 16 support crew travelled 500km, departing from Corowa on Tuesday, March 22 and returning on Saturday, March 26. The group travelled through Jerilderie, Coleambally, Morundah and to the Murrumbidgee River at Buckingbong Reserve before returning overnight to Corowa via Boree Creek and Rand.
Participants travelled from not only the Riverina but also as far as the Hunter Valley, Southern Highlands, Avoca, Victoria and Ivanhoe, NSW.
The 2022 Two Rivers Run trek was the fourth tractor trek since held over the last eight years, with the Covid-19 pandemic preventing the event from happening in the last three years.
Two Rivers Committee Secretary Robyn Cole said the event was first initiated by Ian Sneddon, a former mayor of Jerilderie who had a passion for tractor trekking.
“Ian started the Two Rivers Run as a charity fundraiser for Beyond Blue and prostate cancer research.” This proved to be successful worth $8,500 raised over the first two events,” Ms Cole said.
“Sadly, Ian was diagnosed with MND whilst organising the third event, passing away shortly before the 2019 event. A decision was made to support MND with our fundraising and a mammoth effort was out in the committee and participants to raise $30,000 in 2019.”
Ms Cole said the event would not have achieved the successful outcome without the support of the community and sponsors.
“Everyone was welcomed warmly everywhere they travelled,” she said.
“The two auction totals surpassed those of previous years, as did the fundraising.
“The Trek committee are extremely pleased to be able to donate around $40,000 towards MND research and other charities. On behalf of the committee, I wish to extend my sincere thanks to our many wonderful sponsors, donors and the participants for making this a great experience.”
