Ms Gleeson, who is well-known and loved by locals and Sanger Street business owners, will transfer to Lavington Post Office to be closer to home and to spend more time with her family
As postal manager Ms Gleeson’s regular workday involved tasks such as helping people organise passports and government documents, selling retail items such as books and mobile phones and day to day postal services.
“One thing that has changed in my time is the amount of retail items we sell such as gifts, technology and especially mobile phones. We sell more phones than anything else,” she said.
Ms Gleeson said it was with a combination of sadness, and immense gratitude that she would depart Corowa.
“To the wonderful people of Corowa and surrounding district, I want to thank all of you for the support given to me over the past 15 and a half years,” she said.
“I believe that everyone who is part of our business and community should be treated with courtesy, dignity and respect. I have given this and have been fortunate enough to have received the same back from all of you.
“This was reiterated to me recently when I received a phone call from Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke. When he was told that I was leaving he rang to personally thank me for my service and contribution to the community.”
Ms Gleeson said she would miss the connections made with customers and local businesses who visit the store almost every day.
“I have been here long enough to have enjoyed the excitement of sharing the birth of your children, the sadness of your loss due to a death, and the promise that comes with new marriages,” she said.
“I have made many great friendships over the years and enjoyed the good times along with the bad ones.
“These relationships have been very important to me during this time and have kept me here this long.”
Ms Gleeson said one thing she will not miss is the daily travel between Albury to Corowa having clocked up over half a million kilometres in over her 15-year tenure.
“The people of Corowa are lovely. It has been a pleasure to have been here so long to serve the community and I trust that when an incoming manager is appointed that you will treat them in the same manner as you have me. Thank you all for the memories.”
A number of Sanger Street businesses passed on their well wishes to Ms Gleeson including Corowa Florist Betty Johnstone.
“Best wishes to Sue on her new chapter. It is always a pleasure to see you in my shop or over at the post office,” Mrs Johnstone said.
Origin Clothing owner Craig Spencer said Ms Gleeson had, “always been pleasant to deal with over the years.”
Corowa Computers owner Scott Arnold wished her all the best in her new role.
“Best wishes in whatever the future may hold. Sue has been a great asset to the Corowa post office,” he said.
Gyles Newsagency co-owners Peter Tait and Sandra Dunn Ms Gleeson would be sadly missed.
“She is always helpful and goes above and beyond for everyone,” Ms Dunn said.
The Free Press’ own Dale Pegg thanked Ms Gleeson for her support over the years.
“Nothing is ever a bother for Sue. She is always helpful, knowledgeable and patient. I have enjoyed getting to know her over the years,” she said.
Former Federation Council Mayor and councillor-elect Pat Bourke expressed his heartfelt thanks to Ms Gleeson for her contribution to the Corowa community.
“Sue is always so kind and caring. She has always been a pleasure to deal with, going above and beyond for her customers. We are so lucky to have people like Sue working in our community. She has been a pleasure to deal with and I wish her all the best,” he said.
