Cr Gaffney nominated Cr Price for the mayoral role, which was not challenged and outgoing deputy Cr Peter Croucher nominated Cr Gaffney to take his place for a term of 12 months.
In taking the chair as new mayor, Cr Price thanked her fellow councillors for placing their confidence in her to lead the organisation for the next 24 months.
“I am honoured and excited to be given this opportunity, and I look forward to working collaboratively with my fellow councillors and the community to achieve the best possible outcomes for the shire,” Mayor Price said.
“These are very challenging times, not just for our shire but across the nation and globally and I will work as hard as possible to ensure that we continue to listen to our community and respond appropriately.”
“We have a lot of work ahead of us, not just in response to recent events, but also to achieve the many actions that we committed to in our council plan.”
Cr Price said with five generations of family living in the Shire, she has a good understanding of what each needs and the role that council plays in meeting these needs.
In handing over the baton, Cr Gaffney said after six years on council, the time was right for Cr Price to take on the mayoral role.
CEO Trevor Ierino congratulated the new mayor and deputy, saying he is looking forward to a positive and productive working relationship.
