The grand reimagining of the iconic hotel, spearheaded by owners Kate and Matt Halpin, aims to seamlessly blend contemporary style with the rich heritage of the region.
Recently, the community caught a sneak peek into the reimagined space, which now boasts trans-seasonal dining zones catering to over 150 guests, an expansive dog-friendly open-air beer garden, and state-of-the-art meeting and events facilities. The initial six boutique suites are set to open their doors early in 2024, with the remaining suites scheduled for mid-year.
Purchased in mid-2021, the freehold property underwent a design transformation led by regional Victoria-based firm Porter Architects. The construction was carried out by Melbourne’s Hotel Renovations and Maintenance, with the involvement of numerous trades and consultants from Northeast Victoria and the Border region.
Venue Director Kate Halpin expressed her commitment to preserving the hotel’s historic legacy while ushering in a new era of hospitality in Rutherglen. She said that The Victoria is not just a place for visitors but a community hub, celebrating the essential role local pubs play in connecting people and fostering a sense of belonging.
“As custodians of this chapter in The Victoria’s history, our goal has been to respect its legacy while creating a space for generations to come,” she said.
“We’re cognisant of the integral role local pubs play within the community, be it for creating connections, offering solace in times of crisis or as places for celebrating life’s key moments.
“We hope we’ve created a place that instils a sense of community pride, and where locals and visitors feel equally at home.
“It has been our privilege to reinvent The Victoria, and we’re delighted to invite guests to enjoy her. She now belongs to the community.”
The culinary experience at The Victoria is set to be a highlight, led by Head Chef Brendan Anderson, who relocated from Melbourne to curate a Mediterranean-inspired, flame-focused menu highlighting regional produce.
The carefully curated wine list showcases the talent of Northeast Victorian winemakers, and locally distilled spirits add an artisanal touch to classic cocktails.
Open five days a week from 4 pm on Wednesdays through late Sundays, The Victoria offers elevated a la carte dining, casual drinks, and snacks. Table reservations are now available online at victoriahotelrutherglen.com.au, inviting guests to be part of this exciting chapter in Rutherglen’s history.
