Rotarian Norman O’Flaherty was inducted as 2002/21 Corowa Rotary Club President on Wednesday, July 1, taking over from Paul Miegel.

Many special visitors at the handover dinner attended, including Past District Governor Brian Peters, Past AG Richard Lovett and new Assistant Governor David Barrett.Despite difficulties including the coronavirus pandemic, the club donated $72,000 - up $9000 from last year – for worthy causes and projects.
The immediate past president mentioned the projects undertaken during his term: the markets, the Federation Festival and Parade, B&S Ball, KVE catering, the Tim Fischer Oration, Wetlands Project, donations to the local community, School Bursaries, Rotary Health, Rotary International, Bowel Scan, Bangarang Park redevelopment, The Fred Taylor Scholarship, Drought and Fire relief donations and the sponsorship of exchange students, Jasper Holst from Germany and Corowa student, Jack King, currently still in Germany.
Mr Miegel also spoke how the year was one of the hardest for a long time, with the drought, then the bushfires and now the COVID 19 virus.
“We as a club have meet these challenges head on and have grown stronger and been lucky enough to still be able to help those in our community less advantaged and in need,” he said.
“I thank all the members of the club, especially the board and wish President Norm the best for his upcoming year.”
President Norm reiterated the importance of Rotary in the community. “I am honoured to be given the privilege of leading the club and want to maintain Rotary’s standing in the community,” he said.
Rotarian Meredith Miegel, already a Paul Harris Fellow, received a higher accolade when presented with a Sapphire Pin from Mr Peters for her excellent work with the Whitehead Street Wetlands project.
