The three-day celebration commences on Friday, January 26, with the Rotary Federation Dinner at the Corowa Civic Bowls Club.
The highlight of the evening will be the Tim Fischer Oration, delivered by none other than Corowa’s own Gary Poidevin OAM.
Guests can enjoy a three-course dinner while honouring the legacy of former Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer AC.
Gary will share the captivating story of his father Gordon George Poidevin OAM, a Prisoner of War who was held prisoner for three of his four years while serving in the army, in Italy, Africa and Austria. During that time he managed to escape multiple times and had many adventures. He also made significant impact on the Corowa community.
“Gordon was an integral part of the Corowa community,” son Gary Poidevin shared.
“He was instrumental in getting the Corowa Swimming Pool built in 1956, a foundation member for Lions Club of Corowa, Life Member of the Corowa Football Club and much more.”
The event begins at 6:30pm, with tickets priced at $65 per head, including a delightful three-course meal. Tickets are available via Try Booking.
RSL Park will become the focal point on Saturday night with a breathtaking fireworks display. This free community event, proudly sponsored by the Club Corowa and Rivalea, begins at 9:30pm. Families and friends are encouraged to bring their picnic baskets and gather under the stars for a spectacular pyrotechnic show that promises to light up the night.
“These events would not be possible without the support of organisations like Club Corowa and Rivalea,” Mr Poidevin said.
Sunday’s festivities begin with an Ecumenical Service in Bangerang Park at 9am. This inclusive and interfaith event is open to people of all backgrounds.
Following the service, the Grand Street Parade takes to the streets at 10am, featuring over 30 floats, vintage cars, and pipe bands. This year’s theme is ‘CARNIVAL,’ promising a colourful and vibrant spectacle.
The Grand Parade, marching bands, and creatively decorated floats will compete for $1000 in shared prizes for the best floats.
A monster market will also take place from 8.30am to 2pm in Bangerang Park.
