Outgoing President, Mr Bill Bott AM, thanked the members for allowing him to lead the club through another great year of fellowship and service to the community.
The club was founded eighty-five years ago and has managed to maintain a high standard of achievement and service throughout that time.
The club contributions and international projects were acknowledged with enormous support shown from the wider community. Members enjoyed supporting the monthly market which provides the club with the finances required to run events including the ‘Federation Festival’ every Australia Day weekend, ‘The Tim Fischer Dinner and Oration’, ‘Federation Parade’, ‘Monster Market’, ‘Federation Ball’ and the community firework display on the last weekend in January.
Other community contributions included catering for the ‘Khaki Vehicles’ and a ‘Beyond Blue Car Rally’, manning the race gates, organising the ‘IGA Christmas Giving Tree’, maintenance at the Whitehead Street Wetland, and a new project to engage the many international workers living here in our community.
The club has been involved in the ‘Rotary Youth Exchange Program’ for decades and has enjoyed hosting international member Annic Arnold, from Switzerland in the 2023-24 year.
Local Niamh Lavis also returned in January from her year in Sardinia. Both ladies have been great ambassadors for their countries and will have memories that will last a lifetime. Nova Karikari has left for France to complete her “Lifetime in a Year” and will return in January 2025.
They will also host their first short-term student, Nick-Benjamin Hermann from the end of June for three-months and have, Rebecca Chen, from Taiwan, arriving in Corowa this month. If you see them around town, give them a warm Corowa welcome!
The club distributes bursaries to all the local schools and awards a scholarship in honour of former member, Fred Taylor, every year. This year the scholarship was awarded to Monique Van Leeuwen. This scholarship will assist a tertiary student with their studies and applications close at the end of March.
It has been a big year for membership growth, with six new members inducted, all with new talents and abilities that will add a significant diversity to the club.
President Bott AM handed over the leadership of the club to Rosemary Ferguson, for the coming Rotary year. Ms Ferguson is excited to be leading the club and hopes for another successful year and encourages all members to continue enjoying the process of serving their communities.
Newly elected board members for the 2024 to 2025 Rotary Year include Vice President - Bill Bott President Elect and Service Projects, Stacey Price - Secretary, Deborah Rowe - Treasurer, Sally Batten - Youth Director, Helen Duncan - Membership Director, David Milthorpe - Foundation Director, Stephen Apps - Federation Festival, Gary Poidevin - Publicity Director and Meredith Miegel.
