Rochester bids for flood relief concert

Victorian at heart: Daryl Braithwaite performed at a Lismore flood relief concert last year and could be among the headline acts involved in Music Victoria concerts designed to assist flood-affected communities in their recovery effort.

Rochester is expected to follow the lead of flood-affected towns in Australia and chase big-name acts to perform at a flood relief concert under a Music Victoria strategy, which has attracted $1 million in support from the Victorian Government.

A recent announcement of funding for a series of live music events to assist flood-affected regions in attracting tourism and reigniting community spirit has sparked the interest of a motivated Rochester partnership.

The business operators spoke last week and while the idea is still very much in its infancy they have grand plans to access the financial support on offer through the state’s peak music industry body, Music Victoria, with the hope it will help deliver the program.

While not yet prepared to announce their concept for a Rochester concert, they have made contact with Music Victoria with the aim of investigating the option of staging a Rochester event.

The plan is to make Rochester Recreation Reserve the location for the concert, something the couple with previous live music event experience had planned for some time prior to the flood event.

Confirmed locations, events and more details will be announced in coming months — with venues, event presenters and artists in flood-affected regions currently in negotiations for dates and locations.

Music Victoria has announced it will work with local partners to deliver a series of events across the state to support people in getting back on their feet.
