Jenny said last Thursday’s awards night was still a “really great experience” involving people from a vast array of industries.
“I didn’t come away with an award, but did meet some lovely people and created some new connections,” she said.
“We were able to celebrate other nominees’ incredible achievements on the night.
“It was an honour to be nominated and the evening reiterated the fact that the transport industry is such a terrific industry to be in, filled with really great people and opportunities.”
Mobile library in recess
The Murray River Council mobile library and customer service centre will be out of action for the next few months.
Due to staff shortages, the service has been non-operational since June 17.
The mobile library and customer service centre visits Murray Downs, Wakool, and Tooleybuc every fortnight.
Council is anticipating the service will return during the week of August 12.
In the meantime, libraries in Barham, Moulamein and through the Mathoura Visitor and Business Centre are open.
Echuca library, managed by Campaspe Shire Council, is also open and accessible to the public.
Two-day art workshop
Local artists will spend tomorrow and Sunday learning about oil painting from renowned artist Ross Paterson.
Hosted by Edward River Art Society, it is a chance for both beginner and experienced artists to learn from one of Australia’s most esteemed painters and teachers.
Mr Paterson is a professional and versatile artist with more than 40 years of experience in watercolour, pastel and oil painting.
At the time of going to print yesterday, there were only two tickets left for the workshop.
You can learn more and book your spot online at edwardriverartsociety.com.
You can also learn about ERAS and other upcoming events and workshops on the website.
Regional Development Survey
The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts is seeking feedback about the the national Regional Development Australia network.
Covering the local area is RDA Murray, which is asking locals to share their experiences about working with the organisation to facilitate regional economic development in the Murray region of NSW.
“Your response will assist us in improving our operations, so we can better work together on the projects important to you and inform the Australian Government of the value of our RDA network,” RDA Murray said.
To complete the survey, which is open until July 10, go to artdconsultants.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bDfcG1f8SU0p3ro.
Canididate info session
The second of two candidate information sessions hosted by Edward River Council will be held this morning.
The first was held last night, after the Pastoral Times went to print.
The sessions were designed to provide information to anyone considering standing for ERC in the local government election this September.
This morning’s session will be at the Deniliquin Town Hall from 9am.
If you can’t make the sessions, more information on becoming a councillor can also be found at www.edwardriver.nsw.gov.au. Select ‘Local Government Elections 2024’ from the ‘council’ tab.
Think ahead for Xmas
Christmas might still be six months away, but we can probably expect to see the mid-year toy sales pop up soon.
And so it does not seem so far fetched to start thinking now how you might be able to help others this festive season.
Only last week we revealed in this newspaper that our charity services are receiving more requests for help than ever before under growing cost pressures.
The Deniliquin Community Hub has since started promoting its Christmas Toy Drive.
It will be held at the hub at 8/52 Hardinge St, Deniliquin on November 1.
With so many of us feeling the pressure, buying a few items over the next few months could help take the pressure off you while also helping those who are less fortunate.
For more details, head to the Deniliquin Community Hub Facebook page.
Donations to help local families now would also be appreciated at the Hub, the Deniliquin Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul Society, St Paul’s Anglican Op Shop and the Deniliquin Salvos and Rotary Club of Deniliquin Community Pantry.
