The Shepparton-based company truck’s rear trailer rolled and ended up on its side.
The single vehicle accident occurred in Freyers Road Corowa at the northern end towards Merton Road, at about 11.45pm last Friday, in pouring rain.
“We placed booms across to stop the spill until Federation Council could arrange dirt to put either end of the table drain,” NSW Fire and Rescue Station 268 Corowa Commander Lindsay Bush said.
“This had to be blocked off because approximately 12,000 litres of milk was draining out of the rear trailer.
“We worked closely with EPA to arrange the recovery of the product to prevent any hazard to the environment. Thank you to Albury 209 for also attending the scene.”
Also in attendance were NSW Rural Fire Service, Corowa Police and NSW Ambulance.
The weekend wasn’t over yet, with a call out to a resident’s home in Adams Street Corowa with the smell of gas.
“A crew in breathing apparatus searched the property to find the source of the leak,” Commander Bush said.
“The area was the rendered safe and handed back to the property owner.”
Commander Bush was pleased to advise that nobody was hurt in either the milk truck rollover or the gas leak.
