Lions tremendous for cancer research

Past District Governor John Houghton and Corowa Lion Herman Fransen, whose team of volunteers have achieved tremendous results during his role as the ‘Corowa Can Collector Chairman’.

It started five years ago as a project to raise funds for Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation.

For the past five years, Corowa Lions Club members have been running the can recycling project averaging $2,500 a month with all the initial funds being channelled directly to the Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation.

But the project has grown with Corowa collecting for more than childhood cancer research and instead for all Lions cancer and medical projects.

Last year the Corowa Lions Club raised close to $35,000 for cancer and medical related projects and donated to Lions Prostate Cancer, Ovarian cancer and other Lions medical research projects and foundations.

Corowa Lions Chairman Herman Fransen was presented with a prestigious Council Chairman’s 23/24 Pin at the recent Wangaratta Lions Convention for his energy and drive in this wonderful Lions project.

Lions’ members pick up cans every Monday in Corowa and every fourth Monday in Rutherglen and Wahgunyah.

Help Lions with Cancer and Medical Research Projects – remember that every cent raised goes to the nominated project and no public money is used for administration purposes.
