Attracting military vehicle enthusiasts from all over Australia, this year’s event will run from March 13 to March 19 with a big week of activities planned.
Kicking off on the Monday, the vehicles will be travelling all over the region with visits planned to the Bandiana Army Museum and Bonegilla Migrant Experience, Karinya Aged Care in Corowa, and Mulwala.
Special events for the public include the ‘Veterans & Vehicles Re-united’ on Thursday, March 16 from 11am-2pm at the Corowa RSL Club as well as the parade down Sanger St to the Corowa Showgrounds on Saturday, March 18 followed by a large military vehicle display and Swap Meet at the showgrounds.
The event was initially organised by Ian Grieve of Queensland and Alan Newton of South Australia and was for Amphibious Jeeps, but with so much interest generated among military vehicle enthusiasts it became a largescale gathering for all historic military vehicles.
This year’s theme is ‘Year of the Heavy Metal and Military Kit’ which includes any vehicle from a three tonne Blitz upwards, including Carriers and armoured vehicles.
KVE secretary Jan Thompson-Creamer said she was looking forward to the popular event returning to Corowa.
“KVE members and participants are excited to be bringing our ex-military vehicles to Corowa once again,” she said.
“The townsfolk of Corowa have always welcomed our presence and we look forward to returning each year to enjoy their hospitality and support.
“This year we see the return of the parade on Saturday commencing at 9am. Unfortunately, this was unable to occur last year due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
“Our theme this year is Year of the Heavy Metal and Military Kit. There will be some very interesting vehicles and some will be quite large and have some exciting items on them or on the back of them.
“This year we also welcome a new sponsor to our event, Waldron’s IGA. We are very appreciative of their support. Likewise with the Corowa RSL Club, and the Federation Council who have once again both given us sponsorship to help run the event.”
Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said council was looking forward to welcoming KVE members to the region once again.
“The Corowa Swim-In is a fantastic annual event that creates so much buzz in our community and brings so much to our town,” Mayor Bourke said.
“Council is pleased to be once again supporting this incredible event and we look forward to welcoming KVE members to Corowa.”
