The Kangaroos hopped into town on Monday as part of the club’s Community Camp to Central Victoria.
Kangaroos’ players attended Rochester Primary School before conducting a special Auskick “Kick 4 Fun” Clinic and Community Event at Moon Oval.
Roos forward Nick Larkey said the AFL club was honoured to continue its association with Rochester and the town’s youngsters.
“They (the schools) came down for a clinic and visit at Arden St late last year,” Larkey said.
“We wanted to return the favour and come up.
“You could see the excitement on their faces and it brings a heap of joy to us players to come up and see these kids who have had a tough time.
“It is great to be here.”
Larkey said the some of the damage was evident to the North players from the moment they arrived in town.
“On the drive up we saw some of the erosion and the stuff stuck in fences,” he said.
“It’s hard to believe now, but the town has obviously gone through some really challenging times, so it’s good to be able to come up here, help out these kids and brighten their day.”
Larkey, 24, said it was not that long ago he was one of the youngsters.
“I always remember the school visits myself, back then you just think it is so far off and that they (footballers) are so untouchable,” he said.
“It is great to come out and tell them it is possible to achieve your dreams.
“Luke McDonald said Shaun Atley was once sitting where the kids were sitting. He had a successful career coming from Rochester.”
In addition to the visit, North Melbourne has invited all children in the Rochester community under the age of 18 to become members for free.
The Kangaroos also extended the invite to adults, who can access three free tickets to North Melbourne games in 2023.

New coach Alastair Clarkson and head of football Todd Viney joined the Rochester Football Club seniors for a session.
The Tigers have a great connection with the Roos through Atley and current senior coach Ash Watson, who spent four seasons at Arden St.
