Students participated in a “sustainable agriculture” workshop at the community gardens in 2017. Students’ learned about healthy soils, pollination and worm farming.
Following this event, teacher Mel Creamer and the students said that they would like a big planting calendar in the garden, to help them work out when to plant vegetables, herbs and companion plants.
A design was agreed on and started with Alex Weare, a parent helper.
When Alex left Corowa, Sally approached Corowa High School to see if they could help. Luckily School Chaplain, Ms Simone Plum agreed to give it a go.
She engaged students from year 7 and 9 who were able to showcase their art skills as well as strengthening peer friendships.
They completed the planting calendar which is filled with painted detail.
It shows the transition from planting seeds to the growth of seedlings through to the harvesting of fruit and vegetables.
The garden at Corowa Public School could not function without students, teachers, parents or community involvement, such as Landcare.
Mel Creamer stated “It was a joint effort and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in the school garden in the past.
“We look forward to more helpers in the future.” If you would like to be involved with the school garden please contact the school.”
A special thank you to Alex Weare (parent helper), Hayley-Ann Richens, Chloe Kuschert, Ruby Van Ree, Angela Craft and Taylah Bolger from Corowa High School, for their fine work on this project.
