Tabled at Indigo Shire Council’s February meeting, the petition was for a footpath in Blanche Street, from Foord Street.
More good news, a little further up the road at the town’s roundabout, at the end of Foord Street leading into Victoria Street, is the commencement of internal work inside the town’s roundabout.
Both jobs are being completed by Indigo Shire Council crews. The path is included in this year’s capital budget and the roundabout works are being undertaken with operational funds.
“Council staff have worked closely with the Wahgunyah Progress Association to revitalise the town’s main roundabout,” a council spokesperson told The Free Press.
“A range of suitable plants have been agreed upon and they will be planted as soon as new topsoil, irrigation lines and mulch is installed.”
The lone pine remains a focus and the works will help lift the appearance to the township entry as the plants mature.
Wahgunyah Progress Association Secretary Alan Pleitner welcomed both jobs. “We are very, very pleased,” he said.
“People can appropriately regard what footpaths are. And for many years, the roundabout has been an eyesore and will be beautified.”
