Originally speculated to be another sinkhole caused by excess rain, a sewer collapse in George St, Deniliquin has left a dangerous hole blocking one of the entrance driveways to Ritchie’s IGA car park.

Until it can be repaired and made safe, both George St driveways will be closed to traffic.
Access to the store will be available from the Charlotte St entrance, where parking is also available.
The drive-thru bottle shop can be accessed via the laneway behind bakery, off Napier St, and from Charlotte St.
Access to the bakery has not been changed, although parking may be limited.
Edward River Council has said there are no known impacts on residential sewage, and no known health concerns at this stage.
“Immediate actions are required by council to ensure a sewer by-pass can be constructed to minimise the chances of a sewer spill,” ERC said.
“Residents are advised of changed traffic conditions in the area that will be in place for approximately two to three weeks.
“The possibility of odour and excessive noise from the pumping may occur during this time.
“The area around the car park will be fenced off with an overland pump and pipe set up.”
As council crews and contractors will be attending to the site, and with more trucks and excavators expected next week, an overall traffic management plan will be put in place to minimises impact where possible.
Council has said part of George St will need to be closed as the excavation works will be extensive.
