The Tocumwal War Memorial Hall, in conjunction with Berrigan Shire, will host the free hula hoop exercise classes on Tuesday, January 10, 17 and 24.
Attendees can expect to enjoy hoop dancing, sports, games and competitions, all entailing hoops and specifically designed to be both fun and active.
Only 15 spots are available per session and registration is essential.
Those attending are advised to bring water and a morning tea snack.
Event organiser Emma Vidler said hoop exercise was an underrated sport that nonetheless provided a lot of benefits to participants.
“There are a lot of health and fitness benefits,” she said.
“You can improve your hand-eye co-ordination. It can also help improve balance among young kids.
“I’ve been doing it since seven years old and have gotten into the dance routine part of it. I've performed in competitions in front of up to 2000 people.”
Though many people think it is a sport primarily for females, Miss Vidler said guys could also take part, noting that many of the best hoopers she knew were males.
Miss Vidler encouraged everyone to come and give it a go, and said it was a good way to stay fit.
“It’s a good way to get kids and teenagers to be active during the school holidays,” she said.
