Hamish, 24, currently works at Rivalea but has long harboured a passion for drama and the arts since his primary school days.
With rehearsals in full swing, Hamish is thrilled about his chance to bring the lovable, albeit slightly bumbling, character of Scuttle to life in his debut performance with the company this weekend.
Scuttle will be his second lead role, with Hamish previously having the privilege of portraying Augustus Gloop in "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" earlier this year, a role that further honed his acting skills and set the stage for his latest endeavour.
The Little Mermaid is a timeless tale that follows Ariel, a young mermaid with an insatiable curiosity for the world beyond the ocean’s surface. Throughout her journey, she encounters an array of vibrant characters, one of whom is Scuttle, portrayed by Hamish. Scuttle provides Ariel with an intriguing perspective on the human world, making his character a crucial part of the storyline.
Hamish enthusiastically shared his excitement for the production, revealing that it will feature a medley of songs from the original Disney classic, including the iconic "Part of Your World," along with newer tracks from the Broadway musical adaptation.
“I also get to sing a song to Ariel called ‘Positoovity’ which is exciting,” he said.
“Ariel doesn’t have a very positive attitude about her situation so this song is about encouraging her.”
The road to the stage has been paved with rigorous rehearsals, spanning over four months, with the cast and crew working tirelessly to ensure a spectacular performance that captures the magic of the beloved story.
“Everyone’s done a splendid job,” Hamish said.
“Lisa our director has been fantastic right through to our costume designers who have done an absolutely amazing job.”
Hamish emphasised that "The Little Mermaid" is a family-friendly show, suitable for all ages, and it's performed by adults dedicated to delivering a memorable experience.
Corowa residents are encouraged to mark their calendars and show their support for Hamish and the entire cast and crew of The Little Mermaid with gallery seating now open this Friday and Saturday evening.
This exciting production promises to be a captivating and heart-warming journey under the sea, filled with beloved characters and unforgettable music.
