Next Week, the Felines will host the Wodonga Bulldogs at Barkly Park and the senior team has a bye.
The club would love to see local supporters at Barkly Park for Mother’s Day. The cakes and slices at the Felines Mother Day matches is worth bringing your mother and coming to Barkly Park alone, let alone watching the Felines play with flair and gusto.
Under 14
This was without doubt the best game for the under 14s for the season. Even though the scoreboard might say otherwise, the match was very close. Perhaps, and this was a recurring theme for the day, Lavington were able to score goals from their opportunities whereas the young Felines struggled to convert their chances or make serious shots at goals for their work in forward play.
The Felines welcomed Macie Thomson for her first game with the team. Macie is the daughter of former senior coach Scott Thomson and grand daughter of former club president Wayne Milthorpe. Macie had a great time, and we are sure that we will be talking more about her as she settles into the team and develops her skills.
For the match Ashlyn Willet was back to her best with her run and weaving out of packs. The opposition struggled to tackle her let alone lay a hand on her as she dodged past her opponents.
She was ably supported with Anastasia Lairson and Abbey Ibrahim who are never afraid to take their opponents on and run the ball.
Carrington Schmidt was once again stoic in the back line and it was great to see the games from Alexia Nagle and Chloe Smith.
The team can take great heart from their performance. As individuals and as a team, they are improving every week which is all that a coach can ask for.
As mentioned previously, the club still has spots available in this fun under 14 team side for any girl in the district who wishes to come down to training on Wednesday evening at 5pm.

Under 17
The under 17 girls led by Ava Loughnan in the centre started briskly and quickly put the Lavington back line under constant pressure. An early goal to Georgia Kelly put the Felines in front and a seemingly bright day seemed to be in store.
However, from then on for the next two quarters, the Felines dominated the forward possession but struggled to penetrate the Lavington defence and take advantage of their chances.
To Lavington’s credit, they persevered and kicked a number of goals against the flow of play while they had been grimly defending.
In the last quarter, the Lavington team with the aid of their extended bench were able to overrun the Felines and record on paper a comfortable win.
The entire midfield played well and were able to link up and play fast exciting football. For most of the match, the back line led by Paige Duffy and Sophie Kelly were able to withstand the Lavington pressure.
This was a very good and entertaining match to watch. The under 17 team should take great heart in their performance and with some small improvements in teamwork and match awareness as all teams make during the season, they will be able to regroup and challenge the strong Lavington outfit later on this season.
Open Women
The Open team were missing a few players from the previous week. However, they played a fantastic game even if goals proved very difficult to buy for the game.
Through much of the much, the Lavington team probably had the advantage of possession and time in their forward half. However, the backline led by Kaitlyn Robinson and Jane McInnes held up strong and constantly repelled just about every Lavington forward 50m entry.
Very similar to the two earlier games, the Felines could not buy a goal! Perhaps often against the flow of play, the Felines were able to bring the ball down the ground on numerous occasions. However, they struggled to find good chances to take scoring shots at the goals.
In the midfield, Emily Nicholson consistently won the ball and provided a great display of marking. Emily was well supported by Yasmine Budic and Mietta Habets in the midfield.
Sophie Nicholson worked hard in the forward line to provide a target and convert the team’s chances. However, luck was just not running with her today.
It is also great to see a number of new players for the Felines Open team. They all had a great time playing football and enjoying the team environment.
