Last week marked a significant milestone for the project as the frame was erected, bringing the long-awaited vision one step closer to reality.
Members of the Corowa Men’s Shed collaborated with the team at Focus Engineering to assist in the site preparation.
Corowa Men’s Shed President Lynn Fredericks expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s progress.
“Progress of the erection and fit-out remains on target for completion in the first weeks of the New Year,” he said.
“Facilities within the shed will be expanded not only for the use of the current members but also for the new members that we expect to be very much a part of the shed’s future.”
The Corowa Men’s Shed management recognises that the new facility will not only serve the needs of its members but also play a vital role in benefiting the broader Corowa community.
For those unfamiliar with the Men’s Shed, it is a community-focused organisation involved in various activities, including minor works for the community, construction and restoration of furniture, woodworking, recycling, steel fabrication, and providing a space for individuals to socialise and address mental health concerns through camaraderie.
The new shed, funded by the NSW State Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund, is set to provide much-needed extra space and facilities for members. Plans include a meeting room, office space, kitchen facilities, a metalwork room, and outdoor storage.
The Corowa Men’s Shed was founded in May 2017 with just eight members and has since grown to approximately 40 members. It has become a vital community resource, offering a space for men to come together, socialise, and work on various projects that benefit the community.
This project has been eagerly anticipated and is seen as a significant step forward in enhancing the Corowa community’s overall well-being. The Corowa Men’s Shed continues to build not just a physical structure but also a sense of belonging and support that extends well beyond its walls.
