This was a terrific game of football between two keen young teams. Wangaratta Rovers were able to get onto the scoreboard first with two quick goals in the first quarter.
However, the Felines lead by Carrington Schmidt at full back, Violet Fischer in the centre and the will-of-the-wisp Ashlyn Willett who was everywhere improved their game and took the challenge back to the Rovers.
The Felines had the advantage with time in possession but were unable to take full advantage of their dominance.
In the last quarter, the game was in the balance, however a few quick goals to the Rover put them into a strong position. The Felines never gave in and were able to peg the advantage back but unfortunately ran out of time.
Ashlyn Willet was always dangerous around the goals and ended up kicking 3 goals. Millie Cheeseman was strong as first ruck, and Violet Fischer played her best game in the pivot.
The young felines are improving every week and with further improvement and endeavour at training, it won’t be long before they gain their first win.

The first 10 seconds of the game set the tone for the remainder of the match.
A good tap out in the ruck by Caitlin Somerville to the advantage of Ava Loughnan who was able to kick the ball deep into the forward line to Yasmine Budic who side stepped an opponent to kick the first goal within 10 seconds of the match.
For the rest of the match, the Felines were able to impose their authority and class on the game and run out convincing winners.
The class of the teamwork and their willingness to share the ball around, meant that the Rovers team was more than stretched.
The Felines ran out winners by close to 200 points.
In such a dominant performance, it can be unfair to point out individual players, however, for the exercise better players for the Felines included Yasmine Budic, Ava Loughnan, Paige Duffy, Angelina Bigger, Mietta Habets and Caitlin Somerville. Special mention also to Sophie Kelly who managed to kick 5 goals for the match.
The teamwork and ability to move the ball around was electrifying to watch and this team will be looking forward to playing the rest of the teams in the competition.
Open Womens
The open women had a great, tough tussle with the Wangaratta Rovers.
For the first two quarters, the Rovers had the best of possession and were able to play the game in their forward half. The evergreen Kylie Barton from Wang Rovers was very influential playing a kick behind and tracking up many interception possessions.
The Rovers were able to score two goals to put their team in front when an injury to Chloe Rowland put an early end to the game.
Best players for the Felines included Emily Nicholson, Emily Keys, Clare Megarrity in her first match of football, Kaitlyn Robinson and Chloe Mitchell. The team will be better off for their first game. We also wish Chloe Rowland a fast recovery.
